Kerbal Planetary Base Systems

If you are asking how to install a mod then you need to extract the mod into your calendars folder. Keep in mind some modes include a gamedata folder for you and should just be extracted into your main ksp install.

If instead you are asking how to build a base on another planetary body, its basically a rocket that doesn't have a return stage, just a landing engine. If you are trying to land a horizontal module you need to have a probe core placed on "top" of the module, as well as a control module facing the proper direction for rocket travel.

Step 1: Save the mod in your "Gamedata" folder.

Step 2: Extract the mod.

Step 3: Open the mod file and you will see a second Gamedata folder.

Step 4: Open it.

Step 5: Move what's in the "Gamedata" folder to your Gamedata.

Step 6: ???

Step 7: Profit.

I've had exactly one problem with CKAN, where it didn't delete one of the FAR example craft. For most people it will be by far the easiest way to install mods, and should generally be tried first. As odd as it seems people actually have significant difficulty copying things into the correct directories, CKAN tends to get that right. Since its creation there's been a noticeable drop in support requests here that are found to be a bad install of a mod.
