77 industries Presents:

77I - LRHF "Long Range Heavy Friend"

My first truck with trailer. Stock.

Features:

  • Modern truck with retro front styling.
  • Cabin on flexible mount for more driver comfort.
  • Passive safety features.
  • Ability to drive with one or more wheels broken.
  • Special suspension with bump stop/shock absorbers.
  • Convert-O-Tron 125 and fuel cell arrays.
  • Bunk with colour TV.
  • Tractor unit: 16.7 tons with fuel tanks full.
  • This combination: guess ;-)
  • Max cornering speed with full wheel deflection: 11 m/s on level terrain, depends on mass.
  • Max speed on level terrain: 24.7 m/s.
  • Max allowed speed: 29 m/s.
  • Tractor unit: 160 parts.
  • Total part count: 226.

Connecting the trailer is not very easy and the docking port doesn't allow much play while cornering but the solution is simple and sturdy. The trailer has it's own fuel cell and probe core so it can raise it's front wheels when the docking ports are in position.

Warning: Kerbal Joint Reinforcement makes the suspension rigid.

  • Double fuel cell array.
  • 200 Units of fuel.
  • Stock, works fine without KerbPaint.
  • Warning: Kerbal Joint Reinforcement makes the suspension rigid.

TTZ Long Distance Truck

I never expanded on the TTZ because I suddenly got interested in doing the Elcano challenge, august 2015. Notable evolution in building style.

Features advanced suspension, this baby weighs 38 tons when the tank is full. Probably able to drive to the north pole. Keep cornering speeds below 20 m/s and you're safe.

Action group 1: start fuel cell array.

I didn't want to pollute the topic but I have this comment to make on vehicle sturdiness, @Majorjim. Have you ever seen video's on semi-truck jumping? It shows these things can indeed survive a whole lot of punishment, because of the simple rule they have to transform/convert a huge amount of force & torque in real life. And my point with the breaking of wheels with a bump is this: it directly translates with hauling capacity. Increase the load on a construction which has no ability to dampen and divert forces over a greater area and the wheels will take the brunt of it. In real life kinetic energy is being converted into ... for example heat. A pulse can have disastrous effects but if the pulse is being dissipated into a gradual wave you get less load on all the load bearing structures overall. I can't use formulas because I never learned them ... just visualize what's happening.

Anyway, I invite you and others to take the truck for a spin :-)
