I like the new one a lot better.

Now they need to redo that fugly inline cockpit (again).

Really? I like the new (post 1.0.3, 1.0-1.0.2 sucked) one a lot, it reminds me of a modern fighter jet and looks great on sci fi ships where that is the kind of effect you want. What in particular don't you like about it?

Exactly this. The new inline cockpit is more than perfect for the jet/space fighters. It's good to see we're finally getting a civilian looking cockpit.

Also glad there are so many votes for the new cockpit. The old one is reallt ugly and not worth keeping, unless it got remodelles to look like X-1's cockpit or Arado 234's.

yeah, the old one sucked, but it was good as a sort of x-plane type cockpit, which is a niche that will be unfilled if it's replaced with the new one as shown in the imgur album.

It just looks bulbous. I guess the fact that you can't see through the canopy is what bothers me most. The canopy is huge and it's just a blue blob. I wonder why we can't see through any of the canopies?

Same reason you can't see through an astronauts visor to protect the occupant from the harsh raw sunlight in orbit. Also mods that have added see through windows have shown us that that's not good computer resource wise to try to render a bunch of iva's and animated kerbal's at once.

Either way there is no pleasing people. People should be happy that a part is high quality but instead they complain about vain things like style. That's honestly what modding is for, but no you need squad to to keep that old piece of trash for your sandbox fighter jets and have it take ram that could have gone to more functionally needed parts or even new planets to visit. Some times I really wish the replica makers would lay off and let squad make this a fun game instead of just a fun sandbox.

use a mod and let squad make the game look good for the rest of us then

Delete it if you don't like it and let Squad provide us with variety of different-looking parts for our design choices. That's a ridiculous, pretentious, snub BS argument.

Squad should provide a lean and functional set of parts that allow players to ful fill the contacts they provide in career mode hope fully with multiple paths of success. Not replicas of ever style of plane cockpit in the history of aviation and fiction to appease every little virtual model makers tastes it's an impractical trend to set they can't appease every one unless they make every thing which they can't so since some one will be offended but the lack of x20 dynastar cockpits or whatever the only practical route is to not appease any of them and focus on the functional game. The modding community will provide different cockpits if there is enough demand.

Tl;dr: artistic builders and replica makers should be put on the back burner. They can't be appeased so squad shouldn't try to.

Irrelevant and, again, BS. The part is already in the game, it looks good. There is no real reason to replace it instead of adding one more.

You know what surprises me? That you are arguing to keep some lower quality part [retracted] artistic reasons...

I can understand arguing for a higher quality cockpit in the same general style like say the one ven made for his stock revamp mod, but to keep that junk when squad was finally making any headway at all in replacing the older lower quality parts to ultimately make the game look complete?...

The new mk1 fulfills every role the old one was used for. Its style is no longer up to par no matter how good you think it is, and there is no way to sufficient distinguish the two from each other stat wise even if it was kept due to the limits of kerbal anatomy. I argue there is no practical reason to keep it. Just pickiness and vanity that would be better served by the mod community. I'm sure who ever maintains the ksp historical institute mod will be more than happy to appease you.

This is turning into the debate for the Round-8 Toroidal Fuel Tank again. :/

I vote that we keep both parts. That appeased the crowds last time.

You are misreading sir the new pod is accepted is whether to keep both that is debated here. I can comprise on there being a higher quality replica of the old cockpit but I will not yield on throwing away garbage when it's replacement presents itself no matter what the part is even if they painted the 2.5m tanks orange and took away the poodles charming roundness.

Oh, look, Squad member ITT, dropping all sorts of inside info: who was paid and unpaid, and why people have left the team. Isn't it great?

While Hugo's take on Mk3 was ugly as a nuclear war, his Mk1 revamp is good. At the very least, it's good enough to stay in the game until we get another revamp (not a new part looking completely different) by Porkjet. And don't talk about general art style integrity. The game doesn't have it, and judging by the look of scanners and new antennas, it won't have it in the near future.

It'll never have it if squad can't throw things away it's replacement has come it's gotta either be revamped to match or go.

[retracted]

And so what if porkjets part is different? You said it yourself this game has no artistic integrity so is no big deal if it gets shaken up. Besides You'll have forgotten the old one after a month if not a week just like every other replacement any way.

Dial back the anger, guys. Which part looks better is a matter of personal opinion, and not something to get mad at each other about.

Also, it's nobody else's business why someone left the Squad team. We don't know, and it doesn't matter anyway.

Hugo wasn't let go, his internship ended and he went back to school: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/90439

Please retract the slanderous comments about him, there is no reason to think his performance was anything but good and this forum is indexed and searchable by potential future employers.

Honestly, if it weren't for the Hatch on the side, I wouldn't mind as much, as the over all shape isn't that different, the the feel of the cockpit is so completely different that it was rather shocking. I think most people who want to keep the older style would love a new retuxture to make it more similar to the Mk1 inline cockpit. I think it's the over all feel that people want to preserve.

as far as this whole, let a mod make a replacement for the lost cockpit, it's a rather fallacious argument. The new one is so different from the old, and it replaces instead of improves the on the old one (It's not even using the old IVA model), that loosing the old one is going to drastically change many existing ships (aesthetically and functionally with hatch placement.) that it does warrant the thought of including both. Besides why should a mod bring back a part that had existed and doesn't quite exist in spiritual form in the later updates? It's not like the old Mk3 to new Mk3, as both were clearly designed to be space shuttle cockpits (but the latter one is a proper spiritual successor)

Yes! 100% agreed on that hatch. It doesn't just look wierd and change the feel of the cockpit, it looks downright lethal. If kerbals are expected to get out through that hatch in an emergency, somehow crawling past the chair and through a tunnel to a hatch that barely fits their helmet...

Mobile post but i just thought I'd let the thread know the mod community is already responding to the demand for non Lear jet cockpits. http://i.imgur.com/7UVkASn.png

Beales making a bell x1 cockpit it'll be in the next version of tantares now some one tell me they'd rather take that inefficient old mk1 over this? /jk I know you all still will, but still I find what beales making is to cool not to share ;)

The old cockpit can benefit from a texture revamp

The new one is actually kinda versatile.

It's got a docking window on the top, which means space shuttle.

It's got lotsa windows, which means private jet.

It looks like a tandem seater, which means bomber.

It's pointy.

It's Porkjet's jet cockpit, what's not to like?

KEEP BOTH!!!
