How we feel about the new Panther engine.

I saw the 1.1 album, coming out soon and saw the panther, a typical fighter jet engine, you cannot believe how happy I am!!! I would post a reaction gif but I think theres a rule prohibiting that, if I could it would be that NASA gif where everyone is celebrating, but how do you all feel about the panther? Album link

I think it's a great addition to fill the gap between the basic jet and the turboramjet. Now we have an engine for (most) aircraft use cases. Now Squad just needs to add a few propeller engines (especially an electric prop for non-oxygenated atmospheres). Mods do it already, but they would be a great fit for stock as well.

As far as the other parts, they're looking good, although I'm a little concerned about the IVA visibility in the new MK1 cockpit. Porkjet's MK2 cockpit has atrocious IVA visibility, hopefully this new model won't have that same problem.

I like the design of the engines but I'm sure they won't even come close to the performance of the real shuttle main engines. Also, Squad now has a complete listing of shuttle parts, I think they should include a space shuttle with the stock installation of the game and a tutorial on how to fly it for all the new gamers.

The stock craft are badly outdated and need some attention. Take the Rocket VTOL, for example, with the new thrust scaling it can't even get off the ground until it burns away some fuel. None of them have heatshields for reentry, either.

My very personal opinion is they should have a community contest for the design of new stock craft, this is exactly the sort of thing that benefits from crowdsourcing.

Electric prop would be nice for sure. That's the only thing I use out of the firespitter pack... On topic though, I really like the looks of the panther and I hope the performance lets me use it :)

I think that's a great idea! There needs to be a number of different types of craft with the new version. I'm sure people would be falling all over themselves to get heir designs in the game.

We'd need tutorials on how to fly them as well of course, but it would go a long way to bridging the gap between the noobs and the experienced players.

That cargo ramp looks most interesting to me...

I'm not sure how I feel about losing the old mk1 cockpit, I'm not sure I like the new one better.

I'm also liking that size 2 turbofan.

Also... rescalefactor+ .cfg file modding -> an even better looking ducted electric fan than what I use now... (basic jet with the .18 textures)

I love all the additions in the album. The SSMEs have weirdly high thrust for being a 1.5m engines (and high gimbal? Goodbye, Skipper), but I'm sure everything will get ironed out before release.

The Panther especially I was absolutely taken away by. Finally something that won't accidentally put me hypersonic and drain all of the fuel when I look away for a second, but has enough oomph to actually get anything supersonic.

AFAIK it's okay to post a reaction gif as long as it's not your entire post or really really big.

I confess that I'm a rare blasphemer who thinks it's cool but redundant. I take people's word when they say there's a power gap between the Whiplash and the Wheesley, because I've never run into any problems with it. I do concur that a Size 2 jet is nice, but I don't personally see a need for a third Size 1 or for a Size 0 for that matter (not that I won't be likely to find it useful).

In my experience, if you try and play a spaceplane only career, you wont make orbit with the wheesley (meaning limited science gains), and you'll need at least some moon flybys to unlocked the whiplash, which would at least get you to orbit.

When Porkjet first released his Mk2 Parts Pack mod, I knew this was an area that KSP needed in stock. It was just so good, and completely fit the stock feel and yet also opened whole new avenues.

I'm so glad Porkjet was hired to do KSP stuff for pay. His work is perfect for this kind of thing. It also means that they gave him time and an excuse to go a little crazy and make MORE stuff. Love it.

I hope Porkjet will add his nuclear engines from Atomic Age pack. We have plenty of LF engines and jets now. But for interplanetary motherships and tugs we still have to cluster LV-N's, or suffer through loooong burns.

I am super stoked for 0.625m jet engines. One of my favorite standard builds requires a pair of them, and I've had to resort to tweakscaling a pair in the past. I use some other mod's shuttle engines, they look just like these new ones and also come in straight and angled variants. I enjoy making planes, often in a separate sandbox save; rarely do I need to build one in Career. Sometimes I'll place a flag at the poles or somesuch. Anyway, I'm glad some part are getting some aesthetic attention. I hope every part gets an art pass before the game is done.
