How to retrieve a Goo experiment

Recommended Posts

Hello there. So, I'm feeling that I'm asking something that probably have already been asked a million times, but I can't find the answer.

Maybe I've misuntersood, but I read that a Kerbal on EVA can retrieve a Goo experiment (or a Material Bay experiment) and store the data in a pod.

I've a rover with a Mobile Processor Lab (which I believe I need to clean the experiments), and I'd like to do that to avoid the 70% science loss when only transmitting.

But I've never seen any option to retrieve the data from the the experiment (btw, I use the radial Goo containment unit).

So... Help me?

Thanks

Any Kerbal on EVA can take the science data out of an experiment by getting close and right-clicking on the part.

If it is a single use experiment, a Scientist on EVA can clean the experiment for reuse by getting close and right-clicking on the part.

To put science into a Mobile Lab, perform the experiment and on the page that shows the results, press the conical flask button. Doing this processes the data and puts it in the Mobile Lab.

When I bring a Kerbal close to the container, I have 3 options :

- Observe Mystery Goo (which toggle with Reset Goo Canister)

- Scrap part

- Salvage part

So I really don't see the option to take the science data out.

Yes, I can send the science to the MPL, but I'd like to also cash the immediate science gain when I go back to Kerbin.

Maybe it's one of my mods messing with the context menu of the goo canister...

way way close! you have to be on top of it. sometimes the kerbal is right up against it and I'm right- clicking and clicking and clicking, and finally it pops up,

It's based on the Kerbal's feet. Standing on a Science, Jr, you can get the experiment every time. If your head is INSIDE THE CONTAINER though, sometimes you're still too far away.

This is a sort of "science tower" I made for my larger ships. It's positioned right over the crew hatch so Bob or whatever scientist can EVA right onto the ladder, then climb up to reset the Science jr. lab and goo tank. All the other test equipment is within reach as well, so he can collect and keep any test required. It took a lot of tweaking to get the ladder just right so everything can be reached and reset.

Thanks Yemo! I do use SETI CTT, and that's the problem. Sorry every one, but I still learned in this thread :)

No worries, it is a common question for SETIctt (3 of them in the last 24 hours or so), everyone is just so used to stock.

By the way, how did you notice SETI? Is there some new blog or video entry about it?

I read about it in the DMagic Orbital Science Thread, and I decided to try it. I liked the expanded tree idea, and the start with probes.

However, reading again the content, I wonder if it was reasonable to use it for my first playthrough (but I rarely do a second playthrough, so I try the good stuff right away) : I now have a hard time gaining science.

That's why I tried to build a mega-rover to do all Mun biomes, but it failed (Beside not being able to collect science from goo canister and materials bay, I could not manage to make it stay on the ground, despite its 20 tons).

Stock KSP encourages the development of a lot of bad habits. So with every bad habit it takes some time to correct. That is the main reason why SETIctt is challenging, it is much less challenging for people who never developed those bad habits in the first place.

For example the early stock fuel lines prevent people from learning how to design rockets. The missing dV editor readouts in stock lead to a "more boosters/bigger=better" approach instead of understanding the principles.

And nearly everything in stock encourages manned missions.

Rovers are mainly for KSC and roleplay in KSP. If you want to science spam, try a small lander on minmus and just "jump" to the next biome.

Example for a medium unmanned rover lander:

And for a small (extendable) rover:

One use KSC rover, the basic one costs only 4 science:

most experiments can be repeated. You can get almost all the science by transmitting data, (time accel for the batteries), reset and repeat until transmit falls to 0, then collect the rest of the data. Use a scientist to reset the goo and materials bay.
