Music Videos you like

So yea, I'm still exiled to the barren Land of Laptop, while my wife is playing The Witcher III on the desktop PC, sparkles of bliss swirling around her as she eviscerates drowners in the company of sesky Geralt.

Killing time thread, with a subject combining two of my passions : moving images and sound.

Titles says it all, share the music videos that you like.

I'll start with two videos from the 90s directed by Anton Corbijn :

I don't really listen to Mercury Rev, but I've always liked the video Corbijn made for "Opus 40" (1998).

And here's one he made for Front 242's "Tragedy for You" (1991) :

Who doesn't love Weird Al?
Sorry, I got over Weird Al like, twenty five years ago.

I don't watch a lot of music videos but this one is awesome, mainly because the band is on the verge of cracking up the entire time.

My favourite is definitely Imitation of Life by REM. I've seen it many times but only recently I noticed that four minute video is composed solely of 20 second footage of a pool party going back and forth, while zooming in on different people. Amazing!

I hope that's not because I made another demonstration of my laborious English. :D

LOL. I'm just gonna ya know... leave this here and then... back away slowly...

Yes, back off ya apostate ! :D Fan-made video game montages were what I feared when I started this thread.

Hey, I had never seen that one !

I started suspecting we might have common musical antecedents when you made that Bela Lugosi "undead, undead" reference...

I don't watch a lot of music videos

Neither do I. Their lucky, formal finds are usually better exploited in works where the visuals are not subjected to the music and its promotion.

Still interesting though. I remember my video teacher once telling me that in the late 80s, he regularly ran across Anton Corbijn's videos for Depeche Mode at video art festivals.

A very nice one.

I like the video for R.E.M.'s "Drive", though I think the watering part is quite redundant. Michael Stipe being carried by a heavy sea of arms is an eloquent image, amply sufficient IMO. It's a great song too.

Pretty much any vid by King Khan & BBQ Show. Those guys know music. Other than that, not many vids if any at all by bands and artists I listen to the most or the videos are just bad. Been listening to the Ramones for something like 3 decades but they never made a single video I would say is good, or even ok. Ok, I know: AC/DC's 'Let There Be Rock' has me in stitches every time, or their 'Baby Please Don't Go' vid.

Going tech'n'mech. The engineer and sci-fi aficionado in you may like these relics.

My enthusiasm for Chris Cunningham, David Fincher and other Dave McKean-esque images withered a long time ago, but the 20-year nostalgia cycle in fashion is implacable.

Two classic videos by Chris Cunningham from the 90s :

- Autechre's "Second Bad Vilbel" (1995). Nice droid for a nice track.

- and Björk's "All is Full of Love" (1997). Listened to this song way too much. It has become indigestible to me, but its video was quite something when it was released.

- Speaking of Autechre, I prefer this video by Alex Rutterford for "Gantz Graf" (2002). An impressive track.

- A funnier, kitschier one with Frontline Assembly's "Mindphaser" (1992). Mostly composed of sequences taken from the 1989 Japanese mecha film Gunhed.

Been listening to the Ramones for something like 3 decades but they never made a single video I would say is good, or even ok.

The Cramps, on the other hand, have

Always good to find fellow EBM-loving people :D

Here's a couple of vids:

Blixa Bargeld & Gudrun Gut - Die Sonne

ohGr - majik

To be fair most any Laibach video is pretty awesome.

These are for r4pt0r, who seems to be into animated music vids :

Adi Gelbart makes amazing music since the early 2000s.

The videos he creates for his psychedelic soft-toy rock pieces are admirable. I'm fond of his unique sonic & visual universe.

"The Device" (2013)

"World War I Hamster Diorama - side A" (2013)

"Please Don't Use Drugs" (2002)

Gelbart's cow plushies formed The Lonesomes. "Crop Circles" (2007) :

Finally, Gelbart communicating with potatoes :

Honestly the best music video in my opinion goes to Peter Gabriel's 1986 hit "Sledgehammer". Probably because of the innovative usage of Claymation, not to mention the animations were done by the legendary Aardman Studios of Wallace and Gromit fame, I also very much appreciate "Leave It" by Yes, and of course I have to say there's something mesmerizing about the song "Countdown" by RUSH either it is Geddy Lee's mastery of the Synthesizer, Neil Peart being one of the most badass drummers in all of Rock Music, or the fact that alongside the music there are video snippets of the launch the historic mission of John Young and Robert Crippen aboard Space Shuttle Columbia in 1981.
