Updating the Wiki

Hey guys!

So, yeah, this is about the wiki site that Kerbal Space Program has. http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Main_Page

It's a great site and all, but, it's horrendously outdated. Sure, it does update information for 1.0.4, but many of its pages on parts and modding are still lacking behind in terms of content. Many articles on parts are stubs and lack detail, the newer parts introduced in 1.0.4 don't even have finished pages. The modding guides aren't finished and are outdated, most of them applying to 0.2X versions of KSP.

I think that we, as a community of players, should help and update it. With the full release of KSP and it still being in development and far from final release (which I hope never happens), it's going to garner a lot of new players. The wiki is a really great place for these new players as every thing is nicely collected and presented in an easy-to-read page. It contains all the guides on the different planets of the Kerbol System and all the info such as delta-v required to reach these planets. But when you compare these wiki pages to real life pages they lack in a lot of aspects, missing out on simple points of interest. As they travel deeper into the wiki, interested on guides on how to use this part, how this works, they'll be quite disappointed at how empty the page is. Sure, we have this great forum right here but navigating it to find guides is quite troublesome.

So, let's work together and update the wiki for the new players!

Since the release of 1.0.x, I've done some updating to the Wiki. I agree that much more needs to be done. However, part of the problem is that the Wiki is experiencing migration problems. This prevents such things as uploading images, or using math text. These limitations can cause some frustration when trying to make updates. We can make plain text updates, but that's about it. I think Squad needs to fix the problem before we make a really serious effort to get it updated.

I think there are a few of us that would love to help update the wiki but fear stepping on others toes. I've noticed a few sections that could use updating but it's hard to get a sense on where to start. If you could include a few links to couple pages that are lacking it may give a starting point.

Just make sure your information on the wiki is correct.

If you are, pretty much no one will feel crossed over if you update "their" articles with more facts and illustrations.

It's a wiki after all. It's supposed to be updated at any time by anyone who can contribute without just "guessing". ;)

But I also know that doing this is a pretty tedious proccess.

I updated the Space Enignneers wiki a lot after certain updates, because it was lacking many details of newer versions.

It needs time and effort to write good articles. So there are usually - and sadly - only a couple of active power-contributors.

And I agree, that the wiki is a very important starting point for newbies.

A bad documentation will scare new players away quickly in a not-that-easy game/simulaton like KSP.

The best start are "Stub" pages. They can be expanded quite quickly with helpful information.

But btter be sure 100% that you are precise and based on facts when updating already fully fledged pages.

I've registered before this, look for Mad Rocket Scientist, that's me! Still a total noob at how it works, but I've already added some stuff.

Where are ye? How do I see what you contributed?

I just registered: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/User:Majorjim

I can't find you though. Is your name Mad rocket scientist there?
