So I was looking at some pictures of crashing spacecrafts, and wondered if anybody knows of a mod that spawns 'junk' when a part is destroyed? Seems to me that total destruction is a little unlikely, but if a crashed spacecraft resulted in bits of useless scrap debris strewn everywhere that would a) be awesomely messy and B) add a new kind of hell to accidental destruction/explosions in orbit.

while it is possible to make that mod it would either need to have non persistent debris(vanish after a warp or once out of physics range) or it will slaughter the FPS across the game.

It would be nice to have a mod of some sort that represents a "cloud" of microdebris - one that is not actually visible in game (apart from having a targeting marker) but something that if you fly through it there is a 1% chance of something breaking on your ship!

And perhaps that mod could provide a way of ridding yourself of these nuisances with new technology (laser ablation deflection maybe?).

There was a mod, back in 0.23.5 that made clouds of micro-debris randomly appear, based on how much debris you left in orbit. It was called Kessler Chaos. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have been updated in a while. (The mod author said he wouldn't be surprised if it didn't need an update, but I don't want to risk it).

I'd envisioned more along the lines of busted versions of whatever exploded, rather than clouds of bits. For example, things with high impact tolerance seem to survive crashes even when the become detached from the craft, but anything with a low impact tolerance just vanishes in a puff of smoke and fire, leaving things like engines, intakes and command pods as the only evidence. A few bent wings or burst fuel tanks would make really interesting clutter.

Granted there could be framerate issues if something big disintegrated.
