cp252
Oops.So I\'ve left a crew in orbit around the sun. I\'ve got one tank of fuel and one engine left.Any way I can get them home?
sal_vager
Hi cp252 and welcome to the community. You are in a sticky position with your crew, no doubt about it, if you are lucky you could get away with a retro burn to try to get back in Kerbins sphere of influence, at least there you could mount a rescue mission. If not then you may have to see if the orbits coincide again later, though that’s never worked for me.Hopefully someone better at this than myself will chip in. cp252
It\'s going to take years to get them to cross Kerbin\'s orbit again, never mind doing it while Kerbin is actually there... :\'(I suppose rescue missions will be easier when docking comes in, or am I just really bad at making ships touch each other? mockingking
Theoretically, you might take THE CLAW from the Damned Robotics kit, fly up to your stranded vessel (after maybe getting it a little closer to home with the fuel it has left), grab it with THE CLAW, and try to fly back home like that.No idea if that works. Kryten
A ship grasped by THE CLAW won\'t stay grasped if the ship goes on rails; so you\'d have to do the entire rescue mission at 2X warp or less, which may take quite some time.
mockingking
Only during acceleration; as soon as you\'re done with thrusting, both ships would fly the same way, yes?
Kryten
They wouldn\'t fly exactly the same way, especially over the timescales involved.
NIN3
They wouldn\'t fly exactly the same way, especially over the timescales involved.Provide enough thrust that the first craft would hit kerbin(would have to flip between the crafts to read its map data), then release it and do a small retro burn to bring the main craft back on corse. Might work 8)

malcheus
can\'t you try an intercept maneuvre? make your orbit the same plane as kerbin, but AP and EP closer to kerbol. Then you will start to catch up to kerbin.Just wait a few years untill you\'re close to kerbin and then enlarge your orbit AP or EP, and you will end up even closer to kerbin.Personally I think this would not be a very exciting or fun operation, so I would simply consider them lost in space.Maybe one day you will have the technology to recollect their frozen/fried corpses. Maikie_G
A ship grasped by THE CLAW won\'t stay grasped if the ship goes on rails; so you\'d have to do the entire rescue mission at 2X warp or less, which may take quite some time.unless you get THE CLAW to grab the stranded vessel, do the burn needed to push both vehicles to Kerbin, after which the claw releases the stranded vessel for a good old fashioned x10000 time warp.
