Hi all,

ive been playing KSP on my MacMini but as ive progressed to bigger rockets, bigger missions etc the Mac is just not man enough; As an indirect result ive bought myself a shiney new Alienware X51 which will arrive shortly.

id quite like not to loose my progress and rockets. Is there a way to keep this and transfer it to the PC? Can i just move all of KSP? I assume ill have to redownload the game and mods, but i really want to keep my progress.

any words of wisdom?

alex

At the very least your <KSP root>/saves directory should transfer just fine. Not sure about the rest, I think it might require a fresh download for the specific platform.

You might also be able to just wholesale copy the <KSP root>/GameData directory over as well, if you're using the same version of KSP, and save the trouble of downloading mods again.

C# executables are not compatible cross platform, they must be recompiled. So yes, download the game separately, copy the save files. You can also copy your mods, those don't need recompiling since they run under the game engine rather than calling specific OS API.

Yeah, I play KSP on Mac and PC and just copy the save folder from installation to another to keep up progress. I do have to make sure the same mods are stored on each machine, but it works fine. Even things like Kerbal Alarm Clock transfers all the alarms between systems.

Yes, a Mac Mini was never intended to be a serious gaming solution, as far as specs go. The integrated graphics card is simply not like having a dedicated graphics card. My iMac is old (8 years) but it has its own graphics card (and a whopping 4 GB of RAM). OS flavor is El Capitan. KSP plays great on it. Good luck with your Windows machine (I hope you are using Windows 7; the best of that OS IMHO).

My mac mini is only just powerful enough to build normal rockets. I know where you're coming from. I really wish that they went back to ram modules instead of soldering it directly to the motherboard...

Im not sure of the Mac's spec, but it was the cheapest. It is irkesome you cant add more RAM as that would probably help. Ive never really been comfortable with iOS so am happy to go back to Windows - i think it comes with 10. Mac dont make middle ground desktops - its either mac mini or £3k, unless you want one built into a monitor - and as my set up runs through an AV amp and 50" of 4k awesomeness, ill live without. Hey ho, i look forward to the new toy :) i7 6700k, 4.4ghz, 16gb 2133, amd radeon r9 370 with 4gb gddr5, some liquid cooling and a crazy glowing alien head. No idea whats the spec means, but hopefully itll be better than the mac.

Kinda getting to the point where im wondering what to do next in KSP? I know theres loads to do after getting to all the planets, just not sure what!
