Legends of KSP - Epic Craft Museum!

Recommended Posts

We discussed the master thread for showcases. Its not really suited for epic engineers but i added it to fill a need to recognize some of the best around. If we make this thread a sticky, then i will encourage the thread owner to copy the recommendations from epic engineers And I will gladly remove the then-redundant section and just focus on showcase threads only featuring craft threads with multiple party submissions that appear in this main SE forum. No post requirement but still requiring third party nomination to prevent dead/repeat showcase bloat.

Meh, I retract all my nominations including for myself.

This is a bad idea, it will just create bad feeling. Why do we need this thread? Because reading the posts that lead up to the descision to make the thread is basically just Zekes congratulating himself and wanting to have a thread that is basically made for him to show off. He showed off the shuttle so much we all became sick of the sight of it.

Zekes don't rest on your lawrels make something new man! let dead craft die.

Totally agree with you. Plus why a 1000+ parts craft should be considered cream of the cream i don't know, it's epic ok, but probably not even 10% of ksp players computers can run it.

For Pete's sake! take Khallenger off the front page. Kerlantis is the updated version that is better in every way. Why is everyone going to khallenger, my old shuttle that is horrible in comparison? :(

Please Zekes. Count votes for Khallenger as votes for Kerlantis. Since Kerlantis is basically the same craft upgraded to be far better.

I think that's the thing about it which makes it worthy of this. This museum is a good idea for the preservation of craft which either once had a profound impact on the KSP community, either by being massive, unique, or the first to do something important. Maybe we should even have history lessons for how certain types of vehicles came out as part of this; so we have much of the history of the craft on the forums nicely documented here.

Also, maybe different wings to the museum as well?

With all this in mind, I will up vote Whackjob's craft, Inigma's shuttle, and Mitch's helicopter.

Please don;t take this the wrong way, but I feel like this should be reserved for craft that no longer work in the latest version. There are lots of gret current crafts out there, but the idea of a hall of fame is to honor the old greats.

Yeah. I feel like craft had to have been built before 1.0 to be good candidates for this (of course, stuff can have been upgraded since). I might retract some of my votes if older versions of the crafts are posted here instead.

Actually, rather than disallowing craft by version, we should instead only allow craft a certain amount of time old. Say, if a craft isn't older than 6 or 9 months, it can't get on here. If it is voted here before then, then we wait for it to age.

I do kinda agree with you Noname, as well as MajorJim. This seems like a good idea, but then falls down into self-promotion and a popularity contest. I personally do not think my walker should be up there, and I retract it. I think IF we are going to keep this thread around, it should have only very outdated craft, whose creators are inactive. That way we can remember the good old crafts, even if their creators are long AFK, and there is no one to vouch for them, rather than having a current popularity contest and a bunch of self advertisement

Eh, requiring the creators to be inactive seems to be too much of a restriction. I would say that maybe each person can only suggest one of their own craft every few months, if at all, and have to suggest another person's craft first (though I guess this system could easily be misused by friends). Also, maybe we should lower the votes required.

Yeah, I´m kinda with you guys here. I remember some threads of this kind (another example), and they were all like "Oh, I have made this craft, let´s push its popularity further by making a collection of good KSP craft and including it!". It´s always the same. The creator puts one of his crafts on the OP, everybody sees it and votes for it (because it mostly is good, I don´t want to deny this!) and then it gets into the "but my craft is so much better...." stuff and the thread dies. I don´t want to see anymore of this "best craft collection" type thread anymore, honestly. Just let the player for itself what is best!

Unfortunately lots of crafts that deserve attention don't get any at all. More publicity like this is good as long as people stay mature.

I disagree. People know where to come to see new spacecraft. They either choose to visit the SCE or not. They choose to either comment/rep a particular craft or not.

I think craft that deserve attention, get it. If you disagree you cannot push a craft on people. It's vulgar frankly. Also, check Zekes' excellent full scale Shuttle thread.

Now tell me it didn't get enough attention. People see, like, comment, rep, get inspired then they move on. Let old craft die. Make new ones!

I think it should also be required that the craft must have been discontinues, and an updated version of the craft that works in the current update would void the entry.

I would say that as long as the updated version of the craft is different enough from the old version, or if one of the impressive points of the craft is its longetevity, it should be able to be put in the museum. Of course, more or equal focus should be put on the older versions of the craft when compared to the focus put on the current versions.

Let's say my NAFA-4 was put on the list. It was constructed in May, 2014, and has been continuously updated since then to remain viable up to today (though it still needs an update to v 1.0.5). The updates have made it practically a different aircraft now. It wouldn't be fun of me to only include the recent I and J variants of the aircraft in a museum submission, but there would be enough history within the earlier variants to have it be worth putting here. I feel like the current versions should be mentioned, but focus should be put on the earlier versions which either no longer work or are obsolete. Or is this just going to become a place where craft are posted without much of a description, for I would like to see this handled similarly to an actual museum with exhibits and long histories and such.

I disagree entirely. I've seem amazing contraptions that barely get any attention at all. I saw an entire working engine and transmission built entirely in stock. I can't even imagine the time it must have taken to build it and make it work. Where is that thread now? Who knows!? But some lander a guy made actually becomes more popular? I'm sure if it just got a small feature on the front page for a while more people would be far more interested in it.

Craft that deserve attention barely get any at all. And some that really don't in comparison get loads. Not trying to name any names here. But I suppose the problem based on what you said is in peoples tastes and not publicity. I don't think there is anything such as forcing crafts on people.

I remember spending months making crazy contraptions myself that actually worked a long time ago, pushing stock KSP to it's limits... and never got more than 10 replies. But sometimes all you have to do is make something that looks nice but has no functionality to get lots of popularity. I think we need more showcase threads so crafts that deserve attention can get it. The only alternative to change it is to keep posting in your own threads to bump them up which has even less class.

I like the idea for this thread. I don't think anyone should worry about what gets nominated or what the strict criteria are. We're probably the only ones who are going to look at it anyway. XD

Zeke's shuttle was probably one of the craziest I've seen along with Whackjob's creations or Azimech's first dual rotor helicopters.

Oh yeah, that Ukranian guy, I always forget his name. Perhaps his crafts are so crazy our brains can't handle them, lol. :)

That's my point exactly. YOU think it deserves more attention. People had their chance to see it and comment. They have a choice man.

My 2 cents, if someone is going to start a thread like this, they shouldn't nominate any craft much less their own. That's just vanity. The thread owner shouldn't vote either, to keep it impartial.

If someone else nominated Zekes's shuttle it would be okay.

I'm surprised nobody has nominated a grand tour yet. Though lots of these craft are awesome pieces of art and engineering the most impressive thing for me is functionality, especially the functionality to visit every planet in the game.

I think this might have been the first ever grand tour with all the planets we have now, but correct me if I'm wrong: https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1km15p/the_grand_tour_landing_a_single_kerbal_on_every/

This.

Reading the thread that led to this one, the reason for it is clear. And yes, it is vanity. I wholeheartedly agree that grand tour craft, that HAVE completed a grand tour should be top of the pile. Thank you for reminding me.

Having said that, I do believe this thread has zero merit.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
