How much excess science do you have past the 'filled out' 1.0 tree? I'm about at 8,000 and still going. I could see things to do that could get me to 20,000.

I'm tired of fighting the physics engine with boats and planes. It's a challenge, mind you, but it's just not... fun.

I've only completed the tech tree once, and it was in the final mission of that save. I get bored, complete my goals, or succumb to gamebreaking bugs before I ever clear the tech tree.

Negative several hundred. In my current Career I have yet to unlock the tree, partially because my Jool-5 mission is taking up all my time and partly because a few of the later nodes I really don't care to bother to unlock, e.g. the one with giant plane wheels (the medium gear is plenty big enough).

if you're in a career mode, use the strategies to convert science to something you do need. I only have a couple thousand extra science despite lander missions to most planets.

I maxed it out once at 1.0, once in 1.0.4 and once in 1.0.5. Each time using the mobile labs, a single lab on Minimus is pretty much enough to max out the entire tree.
