Having trouble installing mods?

I'll download the mods, then open my downloads folder, and my KSP gamedata folder and I tried a bunch of things getting it to the gamedata folder; There were two items to copy over, so I highlighted both and dragged them over. It asked for my admin password, I did it, it showed a window with a progress bar for copying, completed, and closed, but did nothing. Same with everything else I tried, like highlighting both then right clicking and copying, or right clicking and copying/dragging one file at a time. What's the deal??

So there are potentially two issues here, and it's important to keep them separate.

One issue has to do with the particulars of your OS, your KSP installation, file permissions, etc.

The other issue has to do with where you're actually putting the files from the mod, i.e. whether you're getting them to the correct place for the game to see and load them.

From your post, it is a little hard to tell which one of these you are talking about. Which of the following statements best describes your problem?

1. I know where to put the files but I am having trouble getting them there.

2. I can put files anywhere I want, but I don't know where to put them.

3. I think I'm putting all the right files where they need to go but when I run the game nothing happens.

Here's what a typical mod installation looks like. Let's say you want to install the Foobar mod and have just downloaded Foobar-1.0.zip. Installing would typically look something like this:

1. Open the zip file and navigate inside it to find a GameData folder. That folder in the zip contains various stuff. It might just be a Foobar folder, or it might also include other things like a ModuleManager dll.

2. Go to your KSP installation and find the GameData folder. It contains a folder Squad wih all the stock stuff, and also other folders if you have any mods already installed.

3. Drag the contents of the GameData folder from the zip file into the GameData folder of your KSP installation.

Which of the above steps is causing difficulty? Edited by Snark

Thanks Crown. To Snark, it's 1. I know where to put them and everything but it won't copy the files from the downloads folder to the GameData folder.

I'll try moving the game file and see what that does. Thanks!

Maybe you should tell us exactly what you did and what you are trying to do.

In the other thread you mentioned Tweakscale. Did you copy the Tweakscale folder into the GameData folder or did you copy the GameData folder from the Tweakscale zip into your GameDate folder? If you did the latter, you might guess why it won't work.:P
