Crystal_Mace
An honourable pirate...moving his crew and his hunting ground into space...will he be changing his Nom du Guerre to Captain Karlock, and the Kautilus be refitted as the Karcadia...? (I loved that classic Anime series....:! (P{ ! [My Personal Pirate Emoticon, with headscarf, eyepatch, moustache, and dagger in his teeth....arrrrr....] But no need to rename or re-plot on MY account.....! You're doing just fine! This just goes to show what happens when you neglect to keep women stationed in remote areas adequately supplied with CHOCOLATE! It's not our fault...really! Now just hand over the Brach's and nobody has to get hurt....slowly....NO TRICKS now....and there'd better not be any pink coconut ones in there.... There, that's better....now I love everybody! Now if they'd just restock the C batteries...... Where was I...? Oh, yes... I loved the Kautilus! I want one.... and places to go in it... yes, I KNOW this is Kerbal SPACE Program, but building bases on the ocean floor is all about survival in hostile environments.....and astronauts TRAIN underwater as well as in high altitude low pressure mountainous areas,...simulated zero-gee and high gee acceleration...COLD climates like Carlenna's Polar Station...HOT places like Kerbin's deserts....and now I'm having new ideas that have nothing to do with your story....:D Voice signals from Jool....from whom....and TO whom...? and what about the saucer nobody can scan or get into? This is really opening up in major ways. I can't wait for all to be revealed.....which of course will open entirely NEW areas of mystery and intrigue.....because we the readers all know...(because you keep telling us)... Just Jim
WWWWWWWWWHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not a monolog, it's a victory scream!!!! I've been working on this for 3 days now... I think. Longer, maybe... I actually started with this design in 1.0.4. so longer, yeah. Anyway, this isn't a chapter, just an update, since this thread's "technically" a mission report as well as a fan fiction story.... and I just want to show off a little! This afternoon I finally got my first really decent working Mk-2 SSTO ever into orbit!!! I don't have a name yet... I didn't want to jinx it.... lol. I did a lot of tweaking, and it took quite a while juggling around fuel tanks until I got a good balance of liquid to oxy. But this version has about 1000 units of each left after I got her into orbit.... which is just about perfect. The only issue was the cockpit overheating and blowing up, but two large radiators seemed to fix it. In fact, her belly is covered in radiators. I still have to land her, but I don't think it will be a problem, she handles nice. I have one more thing to build for the next chapter, but the rest is fairly easy. This screaming monster was the real challenge!!! Edited February 14, 2016 by Just Jim

How about "Corrugated Terrain" ? I've never seen such an imaginative use of Mk2 bicouplers

Diamondbacks are very tasty . Now mind you, I have a treaty with venomous snakes (except water moccasins which I always kill on sight). They have the run of my place at night and everywhere on it except within 100 feet of my house in daylight hours because I'd rather have snakes than rats. But if I catch them in the daylight no-crawl zone for venomous snakes, they go in the pot. Except rattlesnakes, which are gentlemen and usually warn before biting. Them, I grab in my professional-grade snake tongs and carry about 100-200m into the surrounding jungle and admonish them that this was their only warning. Usually that does the trick but every so often I find the same hard-headed SOB in the exact same place next morning, and then he goes in the pot. NOTE: mostly I have cane brake (aka timber) rattlers but eastern diamondbacks are a significant minority.
Just Jim
OK, I landed her, so she's now officially the Diamondback! I'm not gonna lie, it took me 2 attempts, I overshot the runway the first time bad... lol... But the second time went perfectly. I burned off enough of the orbit to get me back into the atmosphere, set her at about a 30 degree attack angle, deployed the airbrakes... and prayed... At one point she was glowing almost golden yellow, and I was sure she was going to overheat. But all the radiators across the belly held, and amazingly she didn't blow up. Once she had slowed down landing was easy enough. I am all sorts of happy and pleased with how this came out. Getting a working Mk-2 SSTO into orbit and back has been one of my biggest hurdles. And my tourism trade is about to take a huge step forward.
