Show radar altitude when navball in surface mode

Recommended Posts

When the navball is in "surface" mode, make the altimeter at the top of the screen show terrain altitude rather than sea level altitude.

Alternately, add a toggle button to pick which one you want to show.

I think there's a mod that does something like this, and I always use the KER readout anyway, but it seems much more noob-friendly to have this behavior in stock.

I'm sorry but this is far too simple and elegant for this game. At LEAST tie it in to pilot skill or a SPH upgrade or - better yet - both.

;)

I would actually like this post because I enjoy sarcasm, but I'm not gonna. Just in case someone from SQUAD sees this and think it's the bestest idea.

I don't think so. Make it a separate thing just below the ASL altitude meter. Or just make the altimeter clickable. But I think having it auto-switch would actually harm more than help. Since most rocket launches are over the ocean, your radar altitude would be about 1km above your ASL altitude. This would be a problem, especially when trying to follow a special launch profile. If you deviate by a fraction of a degree, you'd be over a different part of the ocean, and you'd end up missing the maneuver. Not to mention polar orbits, which would cause an even worse effect as you fly over the mountains. I don't mind the new focus on plane parts the last few updates (in fact, I actually prefer planes), the key thing is that it hasn't been a detriment to rockets. This would be.
