Star Citizen Mod

Hi all,

I am personally a a large fan of Star Citizen crafts, as I'm sure many of you are, but I don't have any modelling experience, or texturing experience. I was wondering if I could get some help creating kerbalized versions of these ships... It would be greatly appreciated. I can write the config files. Some ships to make:

@CliftonM Awesome! they don't have to be as detailed, probably more stock-alike, but in any case, make them however you want, and just PM me when you have something!

Will see about it.

Not to rain on the parade, but doesn't this present licensing issues? Remember, all mods must have a license. And you unfortunately are not able to provide a license for Star Citizen content because you do not hold any rights to it in the first place. And in contrast to something like Star Trek, which is decades old and has pervaded popular culture, Star Citizen is very new and very much focused on the original content creator, Cloud Imperium Games.

Now there are things like the fair use principle and such, and fan recreations are common things in fandoms. I'm not saying you can't do this. What I'm saying is that you should give this some consideration before you start pouring time and effort into modeling, and think about what is likely to get you into trouble and what's safe. Exporting models directly from Star Citizen is probably a big no-no, while rebuilding them by hand is more likely to get a pass. Cover your bases first and then go ahead with it ;)

@CliftonM This is what I've found thus far:

Hey guys, I finally got an answer from CIG regarding this. They said that I can upload the ships to the internet as long as I don't make profit

I'll keep looking, but it seems promising thus far.

And this is directly uploading the models, not making your own of them.

The issue I see with this is using that Star Citizen trademark.  This also isn't applying to software, and it would be easy to say that it 'caused them to not get players.' though I think that statement it totally bogus.

In any case, I'll send CIG an email, asking them for permission.

OK.  I will tell you this right now, I've started work on a VERY large plugin, so I might not get to this for quite a while.

Such is the story of Star Citizen

I, for one, own an Aurora MR, and, despite loading times, it is one of my most gratifying purchases. It's impressive, and I'm prepared to wait for quality content, rather than quickly receive poor content. Much like modding for KSP.

Mods for KSP actually happen

As will star citizen. You do know most AAA games take around 5 years to develop, right? They just announce it when they're mainly done. Y'all are just angry about it not getting done because they're so transparent about it all, and you knew of the game from before it even existed. Be patient.
