I got the Stearwing D45 into orbit

Well I got bored so I tried some stock craft. I got this into a 72 x 74 km orbit. I used up all the fuel, monopropellant, and half an EVA jetpack. Is there like...you know...a more efficient way?

Yay :D

2nd try: perfect — 77km x 79km, without using monopropellant or EVA :D:D

How about this...build your own SSTO! The stock ones usually have just enough to get to orbit but not much else, and are more for demonstration purposes. Heck, it doesn't even need to be a spaceplane! I built an SSTO rocket lifter that can get about 11 tons or so to LKO, and about 5 to KTO/KEO.

That's very impressive!

The Stearwing was built back in .25 I believe, back when there was old-Aero and jets were ludicrously OP. The modifications to it since make it almost, but not quite, capable of orbit in modern KSP (at least for @Porkjet and me, who tried to make it orbit-capable via those modifications).

Wow, that's probably a first.  I can barely get it out of the atmosphere on a good day.  Most times, it fails to crash as far out as Airbase Island :D

@NathanKell, while we're on the topic of stock craft, can you put down on your to-do list to fix the VTOL? The 1.0 engine update left it with too little thrust to actually take off. Perhaps reduce the fuel in the side tanks by half, or just add more boosters?

Well as Gene Kerman Would say

, Great! Jeb got the Vehicle into orbit  .. So now.. How are we going to get it down?:D:0.0:

If we have jsut the stock craft there's no real way to get it down..

But if someone were to say use the KIS and KAS systems and had a storage container or spadce where to store EVA Tanks for the Kerbal, the Kerbal could actually deorbit it just by getting out and pushing..(Refer to Scott Manley's video on how to Deobit a vehicle with Just EVA fuel..

So there's your answer to geet ti down.. So yeah we got it up and we can get it down.. Just ask Elon Musk.. He did it with a 12 story stage and it worked flawlessly..  But that's how I would do it..

What goes up has to come down.. eventually..

Oh wow I knew it was very difficult but I thought someone must have done it before...

If anyone's interested, the ascent profile I used was mostly shuffling around 20 degrees for most of it

Oh yeah the falcon 9 landed. I watched it live. It was fun with so many people screaming :)

Edit: yay I got it in orbit again, this time 77km x 79km without using monopropellant or EVA nudging :D
