Install or change parts in space

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

Can you implement a mechanic that allows a launch craft to carry discreet components, such as solar panels, batteries, docking ports, and the like in an inventory and allow an engineer to EVA and install the parts on a craft in space?  I would like the capability to remove, move, and replace small components on the craft in orbit. For example, if I determine that after I have a space station in orbit that I want to add a couple more solar panels, I can ferry those items in a separate inventory in a space plane, an inventory that does not include the cargo bay. Savvy?

thanks.

I agree with this so much, I've just given up on it.  Rest assure Squad knows we want this, it is one of the most requested things on this forum.  For whatever reason, I think they don't, otherwise it would have happened by now.

The way you posted it really seems you aren't aware of those mods. Anyway, they already pointed you in the right direction....and they are so good I consider them stock. I mean, it has better documentation than the stock game!

I'm all for it being stock.

Including all of KIS/KAS would be a big jump in testable surface, documentation requirements, potential confusion from new players (who have enough difficulty even without KIS/KAS abilities, etc.)  I love KIS/KAS like a brother, but I'm not sure that the mod as a whole belongs in stock.  And even if it does belong in stock, I could see Squad being cautious about taking it on, in terms of cost/benefit-- i.e. other features they need to get to first.

That said:  There are two specific things in this mod that I think totally should be in stock, because they fix great gaping excruciating holes in very simple fashion.

The first is the connector ports + pipes, for building surface bases.  It's just excruciating to try to dock things together on the surface, and "build a base" is such an obvious thing for a space game like KSP to do that it's a major pain point.  The KAS solution is really simple and elegant, and solves the problem perfectly.

The second is the deployable struts.  They make assembling ships (or large space stations) in orbit much more practical, and give EVA kerbals something interesting to do.
