Fermion 5c- Mostly stock Starclipper inspired shuttle

So I've spent the past week or so revamping an old shuttle concept I worked on last year. The fruits of my labor is the Fermion 5c, and oh man, am I proud of this one.

My dislike of side-mounted STS-style shuttles has been long-standing. I just can't get the hang of em. So, I've focused on alternative, inline shuttle designs. The Starclipper has always been my favorite, and its influence on this design is obvious. The Fermion is easier to fly, simpler, and more capable than side-mounted shuttles. Less complexity, less hassle. Its simplicity also makes it flexible: I'm working on Munar and interplanetary mission components to be launched by the Fermion. The future is looking busy.

Pretty awesome. These kind of things are a blast, right? Such an agressive flight profile! Mind if I ask the part count, tough? Those ET's can't be cheap in parts... and if the eye doesn't deceive me, the bundles are 2.5m. Why not Big Reds?

 

Rune. Starclipper's tanks would probably have ended up being orange IRL.

The external tank actually is made of Big Reds. They've just been retextured by Ven's Stock Revamp. I'm thinking I should probably rebuild and rerelease without that installed...

Oh, that makes sense. I withdraw all objections, your honor! You will be glad to know that mod won't be that useful that much longer, a revamp of the rocket parts is finally on the pipeline!

 

Rune. Might be for 1.2, the main thing is I will stop making this kind of mistake.

Woah, for real? I want links, man, links! The rocket parts have been probably the weakest part of the game for a while (besides detail on the planets, cough cough), so hearing that they're finally coming back to them is fantastic.

Is this confirmed? I know it has been discussed but your wording implies an official announcement. Of which there are none..

Don't take anything of what I say as official word from squad. After all, I don't work at squad. That said, I do remember hearing/reading about it in one of the squadcasts, as a post-1.1 "will get right to it" goal. Then again, what has been said in squadcasts has already proved to be inaccurate (to say the least), at times.

In addition to the landing gear Chris, with help from Nathanael and the experimental test team, has started working on a concept for overhauling the rocket parts in a similar fashion as the plane parts. This is more of a long-term plan, which will most likely start showing up in version 1.2, but regardless it’s good to get the planning phase started
