I just want to say how awesome everyone is!

My first post about KSP was on a YouTube comments section, where I asked if Mechjeb was considered cheating. Somehow the conversation ended up drifting to speculation that Hitler used Mechjeb on the V2 rockets. Wouldn't you know it, the internet is full of WWII history buffs!

These forums are even nicer. I get public service announcements, and some folks are even kind enough to bump old threads to the front page so I don't miss all of the discussions you guys had several years ago!

Haha! In all seriousness, this forum is great. I love you guys.

This is a great forum- I think one of the factors for patience with noob questions is that in KSP you can always do better, even very experienced players. Whenever a question is asked, no matter how basic it may be,  people are happy to share whatever new experience is under their belts.

The only forum I've been involved with that was close to this was the Combat Mission forum around 15 years ago.  I recall memorable discussions ranging from in-game scenario balance, to beauty-oriented mods, to minutiae like differences in optical glass and gun laying mechanisms, to real-world vs. "book" stats for vehicles and equipment.  And those debates about Bren tripods...

Good times. :)

Definitely not just grown ups. Albeit, there is more adults here than in other places, but there is still plenty of teens. Which is alright, because they're all generally pretty nice.

I'm not a teen anymore (for a bunch of years now) but I understand an appreciate your sense of humor! :)

About the community, I haven't been in a lot of forums but this one certainly beats even some real life communities!

Certainly. The horrible no-sense-of-humor part of me comes from ~1 years of Reddit, which is why you might often see me making jokes that usually only Redditors my get.

Yes, I get it. I'm a sweaty neck beard who likes Reddit.

...

I'm not denying it(except I don't have an actual neck beard. Ew).

I think most people here are grown-ups and settled down. They have no need to boost or be hostile because of hormons and that's why it's peaceful here.

Every time a poll has come up asking about players' ages, the majority have claimed to be less than 20 years old. Really surprised me the first time, because I was thinking of KSP like another flight sim, and expected the playerbase to be like most other flight sims. But nope! They's all a bunch of young'uns, believe it or not.  :)

Not so surprising if you consider that all the adults who play KSP would have played KSP when they were teenagers if it had existed then.

To bring it back on topic: I got on the forums because I'd stranded a crew on Duna. I've stayed on the forums because within four hours I had more information about landing on Duna than I thought it was possible to have.

Not sure if 'flying by belly' is an autocorrect snafu or just a phrase I've never heard of but I like it! It also sounds like something I should be really good at. :D

Well, in my mother tounge (german) it means to do something by intuition, to "listen" to the feeling in your stomach instead of following your rational thoughts. :)

ah, so that's just like the saying here (UK, USA too?) "having a gut feeling". means the same, but I think I'm going to start using 'by belly' now.

Ahhh, of course. I was thinking of 'seat of the pants' flying which I was why I was wondering about auto-miscorrections. :) 'Having a gut  feeling' makes more sense and it's interesting that there's a very similar idiom in German.
