Yeah, but sadly - ITS NOT THE OLD FORUM. So, nothing special until we hit 1K!

Wait, why is that? It's harder to gain rep to 1,000, since in the old forum, it was 5 points per rep (for most people). Now, it's 1 point for everyone.

I have to say though that I feel that people give rep more often with the new forums, so it probably balances out quite nicely.

What happens at a thousand? Five dots? I'm tempted to go like twelve of Kerbart's posts to find out...

As far as I know the dots have nothing to do with rep. They are related to post count.

All I wanted to say is that I'm hyped! Why? Because today in the old forums, I would've been part of the Loght Green Bar group, people exceeding 500pts of rep!

My gratitude to the KSP Community

You'd be in, but I wouldn't update the Group for, like, three months. I'd be sure to write something nice, though. (I'm really glad that @Endersmens took over the updates. Thanks, sir!)

I know people give out Reputation more readily on these new Forums, but I'm almost positive (just speaking from personal experience) that this doesn't completely counteract the decrease in "potency" of +Rep.

Let's assume that the average Reputation power pre-forum-upgrade was 3.5. This is probably low, though I don't know for sure. Furthermore, let's assume that for a Pretty Good Post, an average of two people gave Reputation to the poster. Again, this is probably low. This means that the person picks up an average of seven units of Reputation per Pretty Good Post. Maybe my posts aren't as good as they used to be, but not too many posts of mine have gotten seven points of +Rep... much less the 35-40 points I used to get for a Really Good Post. (A lot of random comments I've made have ended up being liked a number of times though, and this probably balances the system somewhat.)
I'm beginning to sound old. "Ah, them's was the days!"

At the end of the day, though, I'm happy that the Reputation system still exists! It's always nice to get a "like," regardless of how many imaginary points it's worth. :)

Hmm. I'm undecided.

Before the forum update, I usually got a like on a little more than 1 in 5 posts, which kept my Rep points just slightly higher than my post count.

Right after the forum update my post count pulled away from my Rep points.

But lately the Rep points caught up and took over.

So if you ask me it doesn't seem like Rep got devalued.

Or maybe the quality of my posts improved... or I got better at posting Like-bait. :sticktongue:

I am nearly there!

You're one like closer now. :D

@KasperVld I think it is because the like button is easier to notice than that old little star and also it only takes one click. I wish we still had the option of leaving a little message though.

Yeah, I liked the little messages, too. Especially if I'd made several points/statements/parts in a post, it was nice to know which part they liked.

My experience is that I get about the same RPC (rep per comic) as in the old system, though I would not expect other rep-harvesting channels (the other major categories being (1) helpful advice, (2) sharing spacecraft, (3) modding, (4) moderating, and (5) general snark and villany) to have fared equally neutrally. :D

I do miss the "reputation message" feature very much though. It was a good way to really thank someone, or give them a semi-private comment of support, and It was always a pleasure to get them too. If you think about it, rep messages probably did a lot to cut down unnecessary posts--you could tell someone "cool" or "+1" or whatever in the rep comment if you felt a need to say something, but not say much :)
