Only Steam users and high profile modders will get the pre-releases. For the actual update, Squad rents Amazon servers until theirs can handle the traffic. (This isn't an option for the pre-releases because $) It also isn't possible as Steam is able to do partial upgrades, upgrading only the files that have changed, whereas the KSP store only supports full downloads. No-one wants to download the full game twice a day for testing and Squad would be stupid to pay for the server overheads to support it. If they had an updater (that worked) and supported diffs, then it would make sense to enable pre-release versions via the Store. 6 hours ago, omelaw said: 1.1 experimental and 1.1 release will have nearly same size, so traffic would be same. if not higher 1.1 experimental is only open for around 100 users so nowhere near the same amount of traffic. 1.1 pre-release will be available to whoever wants it, which is likely to be somewhere around 1000 or so users. Most will want to wait the extra 2 or 3 weeks for a stable version. Compare that to the potential million customers, and the levels of traffic will not be even remotely similar, even if Squad was doing full downloads for the pre-release version. severedsolo
Not to mention that historically, steam handles patch days alot better than the store. My perception (as a steam user) is usually I come back and the first 2-3 pages are "oh it's not showing up for me" or "oh it's really slow/the page has overloaded). Steam just handles it for me. Disclaimer: as I said I am a steam user and have no experience of actually using the store. This is just my perceptions from reading various threads across multiple patches. Elway358
TL;DR They WONT handle it. The same way they aren't handling the pre release for all their users and the same way the entire game hasn't been handled properly as it runs like pure hell still as a released, retail product. Instead, they're proceeding like amateurish monkeys. I expect horrible service for actual release as well based on previous documented "meltdowns" of their service for virtually all of their releases. Squad will hire Amazon cloud servers for a day or so which will take up the slack of their own servers as there is no point in them having a server that can handle say 200k downloads at once where their normal average maybe 10-100 an hour. It has worked ok since they started doing it (apart from underestimating their concurrent usage the first time) 1.0-1.05 have been pretty smooth and it's likely 1.1 will be too. The reason not to put the EXPERIMENTAL on the server is simple it isn't designed to have that many concurrent downloads going and amazon cloud servers cost more than it's worth to support upto 5 downloads per person per day for potentially weeks. Their service is evidently just short of a garage ddosers setup which is pitiful for a supposed "company." No business wants to spend extra resources obviously because it's about the bottom line. The difference is, a real company sucks it up and provides what's needed to ensure equal processes and privaleges for all of their consumers. Squad is not that. You all wont need to worry about my "crying" once my process of being refunded and/or fraudulent claims to paypal and my financial institute are completed. For now, I am simply gathering necessary support towards that and trying to warn some naïve users of past and now present bad business practices and support from this "company." There are services in place to protect consumers from this type of practice despite what some would have you believe. They are quite effective in fact. I will be sure to let you know the results as my going away post. Edited March 3, 2016 by Elway358 typo

Just go away, not getting patches the way you want them as reason to crying for a refund of one of the greatest games in history is only your loss and i hope its denied so you can enjoy KSP more. But your attitude is just like a kindergardeners, your not in any form related to Donald Trump are you? Greetings, Ben

Like it or not, these procedures are here to protect the CONSUMER first and foremost. I can tell you with 100% certainty that I WILL have the charges reversed back into my banking account. What finally comes of the paypal investigation will remain to be seen but I can promise you, they will act on my claim/refund and THEN iron out the details. That's the way things work down here in earth's atmosphere. Again, not tryng to convince anyone here of anything they don't want to pull their heads out of the sand for. Simply letting you know "why I'm still here." 4 minutes ago, Navy2k said: Just go away, not getting patches the way you want them as reason to crying for a refund of one of the greatest games in history is only your loss and i hope its denied so you can enjoy KSP more. No you aren't because I can't for the life of me figure out why you are, everything you say points to you being quite disappointed in, and wanting to reverse, the decision you made to join the KSP community. So, why ARE you still here? Claim your money back by all means, nobody will bat an eyelid, but do you HAVE to go ON about it? stibbons
You're right. I haven't filed these types of complaints. The best part of this is that this is, I don't know, reasonably certain to be correct. But in your continued absence of explaining yourself, I can say with 100% certainty that you'll get a refund because a twenty buck refund is much cheaper than several months of arguing with one person who can't even provide a cogent argument for why they deserve a refund. But, you know, have fun with that. Edited March 3, 2016 by stibbons
Rocket In My Pocket
Well...this escalated quickly. Were kinda getting away from the OP's topic here guys and probably nudging dangerously close to a thread lock. Troll or not, I think we all have to agree to disagree. If he thinks he's entitled to a refund, he's free to pursue that through the appropriate channels and it's not really our place to make that judgement call. I seriously doubt anyone is going to change anyone else's mind here via text over the internet so this is just pointless arguing.
