Purple toolbar icons

Recommended Posts

What is known to cause icons turning purple on a fresh install without Active Texture Management?   The toolbar icons for Connected Living Space and Simple Construction have both turned purple on me.   My full mod list can be found here.   If you could point me in the right direction it would be awesome.

I just installed CLS on my heavily modded install a couple days ago, and its doing the same to me... I also do NOT have ATM or DTL installed... I havent had a chance to try to figure it out yet... I'll post back if I do... In the meantime, hopefully someone else will post an actual, HELPFUL, answer... :)

EDIT: I would start looking at mods that modify or replace textures, tho...

EDIT, Edit: Looking at your mod list, I see we have a LOT of the same mods installed...And I'm not even finished with my install yet... I'd say our mod lists are (or will be) about 75% the same... (I havent finished installing all my planned mods yet tho...)

EDIT, Edit, edit: You show NavUtilities as "removed"... I also have it installed, and am also betting GUI exceptions... I also notice that as soon as I installed CriticalTemperature Gauge, it interferes with the NavUtilities GUI, so that ONLY one mod works, NOT both at the same time (their GUI windows overwrite each other)

PS- No, I am NOT stalking you....

You just manage to keep posting to threads I end up wanting to read or post to... LOL

I can also confirm that the EL Build button (for SimpleConstruction) also is purple for me as well...

Also, just to clear up, the Connected Living Space icon is purple ONLY when used in Blizzy's Toolbar... If I switch it to the stock toolbar, its fine... ??

Yeah its weird.   I've still not solved the problem yet.   Thanks for letting me know its not just me.  I get the same with the CLS icon, fine in the default toolbar, purple in Blizzy's toolbar.

@Stone Blue Let me ask you this, do you get a flicker on the main menu buttons, and sometimes they don't respond to clicks?

That would make sense, we are both using Linux and that is OpenGL only.  Its got to be a format issue in the icon, I wonder if I could pull up gimp and save the icon to a more opengl friendly format.   Will have to try that when I get home

IIRC, this is a problem when using OpenGL.

We sure its opengl related?   I tried changing the formatting options on the .png using GIMP, didn't make a difference what I chose, they were always purple.  Then I ran across this in the in-game log.

EDIT: So those are different paths than what is showing up in my folders, I just copied the icon textures to those locations and restarting game now.

@eberkain I also had those same two errors show up for me... I also checked the folders, and there is no "_b_" in any filename for the CLS icon... I tried copying the existing icon, and renaming it to match the error, and it still didnt work...

Also, I dont think this specific issue is OpenGL related... IIRC, I was getting the same thing in Linux (forced OpenGL), as well as my Win install, both using forced OpenGL, AND with forced DX11...

EDIT: Yup..it doesnt seem to be OpenGL/DX or OS related... I get the same thing with OpenGL, DX11, AND DX9...

Also, it happens with each mod, by itself, in a clean, stock KSP install...

Oh, i also earlier tried creating different sized icons. I notice some mods with Toolbar support, ship with both a larger, roughly 32~38px texture, I assume for the stock bar, and smaller ~24px textures, which I assume are for the Toolbar...
So I made resized copies of both the CLS & EL textures... Neither had any effect...

I'm guessing, based on this, and the error message (at least for CLS), that it's something hardcoded into the .dll, for Toolbar support, either in CLS itself, or the Toolbar.dll, that is causing it...

If thats it, tho, why hasnt anyone else had this before now?

@eberkain    YEEEAAAYYYY...I figured out the CLS icon.... :D

Cant believe it was so simple, and that I didnt find it sooner by doing some reading and digging thru the CLS release thread... (especially considering how much it bugs me when people post questions & problems without doing basic research (like reading back a few posts that are on the SAME page that they are posting on... ) Oh well, i digress...

The issue is that it seems there are SUPPOSED to be two, smaller icon textures, both with the "_b_" in the filename... It looks like they got dropped from the latest release of CLS (1.2.0.1), for whatever reason...

I tried a KSP 1.0.4 install I still have working, which has the earlier version of CLS installed... The icon works perfectly... SO I looked in the CLS /assets folder, and lo & behold, there are two smaller icon textures with the _b_ filename...

So I copied them over to my KSP 1.0.5 install, booted the game, and VOILA!... Icons now work...

What threw me off, was that I thought the smaller textures were just re-sized copies of the larger ones... I guess that was a terrible assumption...

Anyway, lesson learned for future Toolbar icon issues... :D

As to the EL icon, no clue on that one yet though...

I'll go post about the icon issue on the CLS thread now...

I got them both working now too, just copying the EL icon from Simple Construction and putting it into that path in the error message worked.   I also made copies of the CLS icons, renamed them as indicated, resized them with GIMP, worked like a charm.
