Its not clipping is the way the sheeting is applied. The OMS pods sheeth run into the body clearly visible in this image.

The number 1 priority for NASA is human safety. Using computers to steer their rockets is safer, more efficient, and more prescience than humans. Plus, they have to deal with the difficulties of RemoteTech.

That was entirely tongue-in-cheek. I would guess that 90% or more of spaceflight is done without human hands on the stick.

I use MechJeb. My enjoyment in KSP is designing craft and planning missions. There are times when things go slightly south and I need to intervene manually. I like to feel that the same is true with NASA.

And deadly reentry, and so on. But real life rockets are way more powerful and efficient than KSP engines except the Vernor.

Yes, true, but I get the most joy out of flying the stuff & designing them. Missions are 99% random.
