@Laie, rather than lament the change to the Mk II cockpit, I'd say there's a case for filing a bug report:

"Kerbals exit doors at odd angles instead of according to gravity"

It's actually not even THAT bad. I just made a tailsitter for Laythe, and just on a lark I decided to see if A Kerbal could use the ladders if they were perpendicular to the hatch. And they can. It doesn't cause any problem at all, except sometimes they descend the ladder upside down.
