missing fonts on Arch Linux

Recommended Posts

in both the settings menu, and the scenarios menu, no text is displayed in the areas that are actually important.

here is some screenshots of the scenario viewer. note that the specific scenarios can still be selected. http://imgur.com/a/cd86p

here is a player.log, KSP.log, buildID.txt, and a hardinfo containing everything but networking and benchmarks. https://gist.github.com/mralext20/bca46fa27a50211ca6367fe9acb9db8e

Hi @mralext20, KSP uses the proprietary calibri font, if this is unavailable it will use the proprietary Arial and Arial Bold fonts, these are the default fallback fonts of the Unity game engine.

These are installed by default in Windows, OSX and in Ubuntu and its derivatives, but are not installed in most other distros.

They are awkward to obtain, but you can find the correct versions of Arial that Unity needs in the winetricks EUfonts pack.

Other than that you can try the Arch equivalent of the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package.

But your picture shows me that fonts were found, as you have text in the description box, what you don't have are the buttons for the scenarios or the banners, like this:

I think you need to reinstall and check again.

There is an AUR package called 'ttf-ms-fonts'. The ArchWiki states its an older one lacking font hinting and stuff, but as far as i can see it's working ok.

I've figured out a 'workaround'

This appears to only be a bug on the prerelease: I reverted to stable and the bug went away.

Except it's working in the Linux pre-release, the pic I posted is from the 1196 pre-release build on Xubuntu Linux, running proprietary Nvidia drivers.

So it's likely the bug is not in the game and could be a bad install or a graphics driver issue, meaning you're going to be disappointed when 1.1 is released properly and this issue is still there.
