Oblique Wings...

Recommended Posts

Are these things even possible? For those living under a rock, oblique wings are a concept in which a straight wing rests on a horizontal swivel. In theory, this should allow for the same performance advantages gained by variable-geometry wings, but without being a maintenance nightmare. Anyhow, I tried making one in the SPH, and it nosedived as soon as I pivoted the wing. Is this just me failing hardcore at spaceplane design, or can you just not do it in KSP?

Wing lift is kinda broken currently; a wing doesn\'t generate lift if it\'s end-forward relative to the \'airstream\' for some reason...

Agreed. Wing lift is definitely still 'a work in progress'. My most efficient spaceplane design so far has no wings at all.

I managed a fairly successful oblique winged plane. It flew fine and well at a wide range of wing angles until I tried to make it turn.

I think the key is using the MechJeb Smart ASS Surf control and also not having any control surfaces attached to the rotating wing.

Welp, I should\'ve left out those control surfaces. Also, has anyone been successful in building an assymetrical aircraft?

I\'ve tried a few, but no success yet. I\'m reluctant to put too much effort into it before we see the long-promised reworked wing code ingame.
