Request: Mod to give in-editor persistent names to parts

With the increasing complexity of craft it would be very useful if you can give a name to a part or group of parts which remains persistent until the part or subassembly is destroyed or recovered.

If for example you have a mothership "My Big Mama" and you launch a bunch of fighters from it, they all have names like "My Big Mama probe" ... which sounds awkward.
It would be terrific if they have names like Red 5, Blue 7, Squadron Leader etc.

If a part or connection fails, it's they're always identified by their original part name. This way, if you have a very large ship, you don't know right away what's happening. If it would say "toilet A deck 21 has exploded due to structural stress" you know where to send a plumber and a dietitian.

kOS contains a part module that does this on a per part basis.

For vessels, a similar thing is probably already part of KSP. When you dock two vessels, the game usually remembers the name of the smaller vessel so that it doesn't end up as "Big's Probe" on undocking. My guess is that this is a field in the command PartModule, and it is just not visible in the editor.

Hmmm ... Yes but having to undock, rename and redock is a bit tedious. And I haven't found anything in the ModuleCommand to suggest this, maybe I haven't looked at the right place.

I'll look at kOS to see if it's useful.
