The website supplies a tool which lets you create personalized merit ribbons. For every celestial body, you need to tell the website what you have achieved, if anything (and yes, if you have achieved something new, you need to go there and manually change it).

What you get in the end is basically a link. You put that link into your forum signature here on the forums. That way, it loads the picture of "your" ribbons from that server and displays them below your posts.
