switching IVAs

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Im trying to figure out if we can somehow tweak the IVA for a given part from the SPH or VAB? for example, I can choose to have an IVA specifically for atmospheric flight, and thus have more real estate to work with without worrying about RCS switches, or orbital SAS modes, etc...

Any ideas or suggestions?

Boy, this would be amazing. Currently I just use your old pre-1.0.5 Mk1 cockpits as "aircraft" cockpits, and the new Mk1 cockpits as "spacecraft" cockpits. But I would love to see what you could do with this.

It seems to me that if one is able to do a model and texture switch, one should be able to do an IVA switch with Editor tweakables as well, as all of them are defined by lines in a part's .cfg file. I don't know how the Firespitter texture and model switch work, but maybe @RoverDude, who keeps Firespitter up to date, might know.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will have a go at contacting roverdude, tbh I havent spent much time since posting on it here, but my plan is that with it I can make variation much like you are with parts, that way one can purpose build the craft and not have extra instruments that are not useful... :P

i toyed with this a few weeks ago, the goal was to mimic the scene from The Martian, gutting the "IVA" to save mass, but losing part features :D got distracted and wandered off though

anywho, requires codework, but part.internalModel is loaded from whatever part.internalModelName is, and some methods can be used to reload an iva to change it, but its cleaner to change it at the start before iva is created
