How do i 'control' a kerbal

Do you guys know how to use rcs on a kerbal?

Basically WASD to go backwards forwards left and right. Shift & Ctrl to go up and down. Q&E to rotate.

The R key turns RCS packs on and off, then it's the keystrokes Lunar Sea mentions. With the pack off, Kerbals are inert in space.

Ok but I've tried W for forwards but it always seems to go more up than forwards.

Sometimes the camera angle can be decieving. Also depends what you are referencing to - if it's moving too than can complicate things.

How do I control a Kerbal?  Bribing with tasty treats works well for me!

Agreed. I sometimes give Jeb a booster or two, and he'll be under my control for the rest of the day.
