More consistent kerbal collision and death?

I've just, over time, kind of been amused, and a little bothered by the fact that you can jump out of a pod going hundreds of meters per second and survive a direct impact with the ground. Using the jetpack, I can reliably survive falls onto Kerbin at 40-50m/s, especially water. I just kind of feel this could use some tweaking. Also, saving mid-jump... please, my Jeb died from a normal jump. RIP. This was of course trying to circumvent the save lock when on EVA, but oh well. Maybe make it so you just can't save when jumping, either? Anyway, inconsistent damage from falling.

That would actually make sense. Yuri Gagarin didn't land his capsule. He jumped out with a parachute.

I think it should stay the way it is. It is part of the game's charm.

*DRAMATIC FLASHBACK*

With the 2001: A Space Odyssey theme playing in the background, I was landing my new experimental shuttle. However, I had fallen short of the KSC and wasn't even over the mountains. Coming down... nice and easy now... Boom! Boom! BOOM! Perfectly in time with the music, and then I bail out Jeb (also in time with the music) and realize that I didn't need to bail out... I slip off the ladder, and faceslide to a stop several tens of meters away, and then plant a flag in time to the climax of the music!

Anyways, I think it should stay. It makes for good fun.

(In my opinion, KSP isn't a simulator, it is a game, and games tend to have their little quirks like this one)

Several months ago I've planned to release such mod introducing hard times for the kerbals colliding with anything: fatal crashes, fatal falls from a high altitude etc. But then I've played a career game and just tried to catch a plane's cockpit door in a jump after a hard mission. Instead I've caught an edge of a wing and was fired in the sky making some aerialist figures. If my kerbal was vulnerable to that then that would be cruel. Now the half-written mod rests on my shelf.
