Need help with Private Messaging

So I'm trying to PM someone, and when i hit Send, it tells me " You have entered an invalid recipient ", and there is a big white square next to their name, and it wont let me send the message...

If you're doing it manually, and you just opened up a fresh PM, the moment you press "@" Press the letter of the person you want to send, and keep spelling the name until you find their name, that's for when you're messaging multiple people. But if you want to make it easier to PM someone, just go to their profile, and press "message"

This is what I'm doing... When it opens the message window, the person's name is already there, like it should be... ???
