Add a HeatShield Nosecone

Its too blunt. I think something like the carbon carbon nose the shuttle had would be nice

What he said. But different ones too, like a Aero-Dynamic NoseCone, a Advanced NoseCone, and a NCS Adaptor/Small NoseCone. Oh and they should add MK-2 Expansion mod to stock.

Have you tried using fairings as nosecones? They seem more heat-resistant than their max temp suggests, so they might work for a stock heatshield nosecone.

Not trying to be smart here but it does say "Ad" and not "Add". By your title you could just mean create an Ad for this nose cone heat shield.

Also, as others said above me, why not just turning the heat shield upside down? If it has too much drag then have a fairing around it and deploy the fairing when you need the shield?

Fixed!

Yeah but staging

Right click, disable staging. I'm almost positive fairings have that in stock.

The big problem with this in my experience is that the fairing bases tend to explode when they get too hot, which they will do if you don't come in perfectly prograde.

They don't have a stage disable

Huh. Oh well, you could push them to the top of the staging list, I've done that for things I don't want to deal with before, like motherships with multiple ships each with their own staging. It's usually easier to just put all that stuff in a single stage at the very top of the list because redocking things together messes up staging anyway.

This. Plus they add a handy storage space for utility parts like probe cores, batteries, monoprop tanks, etc.

And you could go into the fairings .cfg files and increase the MaxTemp (in fact a higher max temp is commented out in the listing I looked at).  Or use it as a template for adding your own NoseShield part which has say higher crash tolerance and lower mass and change useStaging to False or whatever you want.  I have know idea how hard it would to make it black though, I'm not a texturing type :) .

Yeah, this seems unnecessary and sorta problematic.

I'd guess the reason it worked for the shuttle would be a more vertical ascent than descent profile, and aerodynamic shielding by fuel tanks, or the shuttle body? (I know nothing, please don't hit me!) That seems kinda too niche for stock. Optional ablator for the bottom half of space plane parts would be cool though...

For a nose cone, fairing+heat shield sounds right. If the fairing base has poor heat tolerance, put it above as an additional shield! :P

I have honestly tried it...

it blew up from overheating xD
It does not always work...

Like I made a plane that gets into a suborbital flight and releases a sepertron probe to enter orbit.

It has to go REALLY fast to do that...

So fast the that nosecone won't work, so I added a heat shield instead. Now it slows down dramatically because it is not aerodynamic :(

Hmm, maybe the inflatable heatshield would work, like if you don't deploy it, it's fairly pointy.

I was thinking the same thing...

Issues continued. Believe it or not, I found it to not be very aerodynamic.

Of course I used tweak scale to make it size a size 1 part... that could technically be an issue but I don't know.

Without ablator, just with insane heat resistance and small heat conductivity.

Ah ... that what NASA actually used! Strange, I thought they are not smart enough to invent it. :D

Sorry for bad humour. Or not? I demand a feature, that forces players to add 30000 thermal tiles manually, or else planes would buckle and melt at 300 C. :D

XD That would be hillarious...

Now we can really see how annoying the Space shuttle was!
