Supersonic Effects persist after slowing down

Recommended Posts

You are probably not experiencing supersonic effects, but rather some sort of Kraken (a mythical spacebeast said to tear apart spacecraft out of the blue).

These things are often related to the construction of the craft in question, particularly when part clipping is involved.

I know the Kraken from a long time ago, and it eats entire crafts. This doesn't. This is caused when reaching high mach numbers where you aircrafts vibrates more if you don't build it to withstand supersonic speeds. The problem is these effects persist even after slowing down.

In some sense, this is a known bug -- it is the same bug that causes what I call the jitterbug dance with airplane wheels. It also causes uncontrollable flexing in large space stations.

Basically, in ver 1.1, joint flexing does not damp down -- and in fact is self-reinforcing. There is no fix.

Well, true, there's no fix for the basic problem.  However, for any given instance of the problem, often you can solve it by rearranging your ship.  Some designs seem much more prone to the issue than others.  Certain design choices tend to cause this problem more than others-- in particular, part clipping can frequently lead to hilarity.

A screenshot could help-- maybe folks could spot where the likely problem is, e.g. "oh, you should move this part here so it's not bumped right up against this other part over there".
