The Kickback booster! I just got the joke!!

Its been bugging me "The kickback booster"  ?

Execs from Morton Thiokol Inc. the developer of the SRB for the space shuttle went to prison for a government contract kickback scheme! (which included parts for the SRBs,)

Not being a native english speaker, I had to Google 'kickback'. Ha! It's the sort of thing that happens all the time where I live (not people going to jail for it, tho...)

Thank you, I had no idea why it was named that!  Thats some good dark humour right there. 

 

Interesting too, since that part came with the NASA mission pack.  Presumably NASA okayed the name? I wonder what their thoughts on it were if they didn't name it.  Ther certainly continued to invite the KSP guys to events and such, post release of the pack.

Lol, english isn't my 1st language, and I didn't knew Kickback could also mean bribes!

Always took it much more literally.

They weren't named until 1.0.

I like these little jokes in KSP. You find them all over the place in part descriptions and the company names. They cheer me up. =)

I don't believe that this was an intended joke. I think the sole intended meaning is: Verb: Spring back, as from a forceful thrust.

Oh, there are underlying jokes with most of the parts and planets and moons. Considering Squad did a lot of research in spaceflight and astronomy, it is more likely to be the joke.

NASA's sense of humor has always been quite strong, and that affair never did demonize the program itself.  And it should never be forgotten, either, lest others think it so easy to attempt themselves.
