Lancia Stratos Replica (now with better handling and no more wheel blocking). 1.2 Pre

Recommended Posts

Presenting the three times world rally championship, Lancia Stratos. Witch next to the Delta Integrale is a rallying icon.

It also happens to be a very good looking car, especially with the iconic Alitalia livery.

Yes, the only real reason i'm even slightly familiar with any cars or in fact how the work, is because of Top Gear.

So, im not going to pretend i know anything about them, so lets move on.

Some info about the build:

With this build, i tried to put as much detail in as i possibly could, while still making it drivable, even at high speeds.

So that's why i spent about an hour fiddling around with the chassis of the car to try and make some sort of custom suspension.

The only thing that i really got out from those tests, is that the lower i keep the CoM the better the handling.

As for the custom suspension, nothing really seemed loose enough to work as suspension components. i tried batteries cause i remembered that those gave me some success before in my truck suspension tests. And i also tried spider engines for the same reason.

I guess the car is just too light to really work with custom suspension. At least the wheels i use can actually handle quite a beating compared to the "ruggedised" wheels.

So yea, the car is very much driveable even at top speed witch is 36 m/s, you just need to be careful with the turning, or else :

Edit: Now it is impossible to flip the car, even if you do a tight turn at full speed (tested this plenty amount of times).

NOTE: there is a problem with the car, due to how the new wheels work, if you hit the ground too hard with your front wheels, one of them might get blocked.

Edit: That problem is now a thing of the past.

Also, it helps if you push your nose down while driving (improves grip and handling).

Edit: This problem is a thing of the past as well, thanks to @Azimech doubled wheel technigue.

So, now, you can drive and turn at full speed without having a risk of flipping the car :D. So go nuts.

To test it new improved reliability, i took it for a little test drive.

This is where i ended up.

Yep, i drove all the way to the mountains and up them.

Taught it would be a nice idea to update the Stratos with better handling and stability to make it more fun to drive.

This was made possible due to a an idea i stole from Azimech's new tribute car, the doubled wheels.

Yep, the annoying "Wheel blocked" thing has been removed in the newest version.
