Munian Challenge

Recommended Posts

The challenge is to do multiple flybys of multiple moons in different planets SOI's

1. Get a ship into space, no more than 2 trips up separately to connect and NO HYPEREDIT:mad:!!!!

2.Do a flyby of the Mun and Minmus, then escape Kerbin's SOI.

3. Go to Duna's SOI, do an Ike Flyby into a Dunian orbit. Then Escape Duna.

4. Go to Eve's SOI , get into a stable Eve orbit and do a Gilly flyby into an Eve escape.

5.Go back to Kerbin's SOI and do a Minmus landing! without getting into a Kerbin Orbit.

Must haves.

1. Photo evidence of each flyby ,with pictures of the map, so I know you ain't cheatin' with Hyperedit and physical pictures of the ship in front of the Moons.

2. More than 4 Kerbals... (hehe, to start, some malicious killings are allowed)

3. Have a picture of the Final Minmus landings

4. No Mechjeb or any mod of that sorts. (Just no mods that are auto piloted, KAC, KER, and PreciseNode are fine. Stuff like that is good!)

5. No part mods that make it easier.

6.Must be current version of KSP.

7.Good luck and feel free to rage about my unfairness...

8. Do it all in order! (hehe)

9. Any cheating will result in removal from the leader board and shamed everyday in the comments by yours truly...

First person to have posted that they did the challenge wins! And from then on there will be a leader board!

Thanks Y'all

And where's your entry? :D

I assume by "Mechjeb or any mod of that sort" you mean control mods, and not information mods or mods that help the player by making controls more precise? In particular, I won't leave Kerbin's SOI without KAC, KER, or PreciseNode. Are those okay?

This isn't my entry, but I was trying my hand at a flyby of Gilly without entering Eve orbit (not easy!) and when I finally nailed it, I took a screenshot 6km over "sea level" which KER tells me was only 2.6km over the surface, heading 2km/s. Had I been going straight down here, I'd have hit that ground in 1.3 seconds!

Looking at what @5thHorseman just posted, it seems like the idea is you're not supposed to actually orbit any of the parent bodies in this tour, although I do not see this stated in the rules.. Is that correct? That rule would make this challenge quite difficult in terms of navigation. If OTOH you are allowed to orbit Duna, Eve, and Kerbin, then it's a pretty straightforward exercise, which would be more appealing to less experienced players. I have no preference one way or the other myself, but I think this could be made clearer.

Oh my glob guys! I'm so sorry! With Ike, you can do a flyby into a Dunian orbit and then leave and with Gilly you can get into an Eve orbit and then pass by Gilly out of the Eve orbit. Everything else should be just the flyby and no extra orbit. (Except for getting a Kerbin orbit and escaping and all the things I just said) I will add all of this into the original directions. I apologize for my mistake.

I am really sorry about all the misunderstandings, this is my first challenge and I just had a stupid idea and I thought I would post it. This challenge is supposed to be a medium-difficult challenge, really depending on the ship you make. I'm sorry but have fun with the challenge and my next challenges will be more thought out and thorough than this one! Thanks Y'all!

Thanks for the clarification.  I have a craft which I'm pretty sure can do that in a single stage without refueling. Maybe I'll give that a try...

I apologize if I added to any confusion, but I assumed that entering Duna and Eve orbit was okay. I just didn't want to :) I wanted the extra challenge of pinpointing Gilly from Sun orbit for a flyby.

In my 2nd test I came in backwards and flew past Gilly at 3.5km/s. It was awesome. I'm about ready to launch for reals, if I can find the time.

I had a challenge entry a long time ago for the shortest time to Eeloo and as a result had a probe speeding past the surface at 31km/s at an altitude of less that 4km, although it was ASL as I didn't have KER installed back then, so expect it was a km or two either side of that.
