Fix the KSP.exe violation!

Recommended Posts

This had been out for a while and I'm having problems with it. Switching through Editors and craft keeps crashing the game for some reason and it's all because of an "access violation"! I've tried --forceopengl, 'uncheck-read-only-then-apply, other mods o stop this issue to no avail. If there is something to be done about it then fix it.

Please, the only bug/error that stops me from enjoying ksp...

There are basicly two versions of "Access Violation" errors.

One is simple to track down, normally an out of bounds index.

The other one is a QA nightmare, it's random thread de-sync (stuff running in the background creating crashes regardless of what the user it doing).

I haven't had many crashes, but since I'm a sysdev nerd I've tracked every single one trying to figure out why it happened.

So far I've failed miserably.

I've had crashes i VAB, in space, in the tracking view, even just having KSP in the background while using other software.

My personal hunch is that it's the audio subsystem, but I don't have any data to back this up (yet).

(A second option would be the asteroid detection sub system).

Moving to Technical Support.  (The "Suggestions" forum is for requests about gameplay, features, wouldn't-it-be-cool-if, etc.)

I'm just guessing that you have mods installed-- you didn't really make it clear.  If you're encountering this problem unmodded, in a pure stock game, please let us know and we can move it over to the unmodded support forum.

For future reference:  any time you ever need to report or discuss an issue with KSP crashing or otherwise acting bizarrely, it's really important to be explicit about whether you're running any mods, and if so, which ones they are.  Very often, those sorts of problems come from mods and not from the game itself, in which case there's nothing that Squad can do about it.  Some mods are much crashier than others.

That's not to say that the stock game can't crash... just that mod-caused crashes are common enough that it helps to at least eliminate that possibility before looking further.

@Snark

Ah sorry, unmodded with the exception of jetsounds & rover wheel sounds.

@Curveball Anders However on mine, KSP crashes without any programs running for some reason...

My post wasn't to state that it doesn't happen nor that it's due to other software.

It's just that it's very hard to track down that kind of crashes (unless they are type 1).

I don't know <explitive> about Squad's development process, I just know a bit about general software development.

Regardless of how annoying the crashes  are, upload the data to Squad, file a bug and fill out the forms.

It's possible that the Squad Staff in leaning back, petting a white cat and giggling at us, but I don't think so.

Provide them with data, and they'll track down the issue.

Ah well, Hopefully everything gets ironed out before 1.2.

Since 1.1 has been causing a lot of crashes with the new things the have. If it isn't fixed by then, then I'd beta go to 0.7.3.

ksp.exe might reach memory-limit very fast => access violation!
