Kerbal Visions Planet Pack for Kopernicus

Hello everyone, I am pleased to announce the Kerbal Visions Planet Pack.

What is it, you may ask? Quite simply, it's a planet pack that will be near-verbatim adding NovaSillisko's original planets. Currently, the pack consists of Gas Planet 2, now called Sartres, which Eeloo now orbits, it's new moons, Daphy, Mania and Fonso, Gas Planet 4, now called Nool, and it's new moon Sotus.

@_Augustus_ No offence, but there are about a million Saturn analogs out there, and yours... needs some work to be on par with some of those. I suggest you make the following, for OPM users (call the pack OPM Plus or something)

Between Sarnus and Jool - Eve-Lite, 1.4 gees, 2 atm, and light green, no ocean

Between Sarnus and Urlum - A Duna-like world with 0.45g, atmo like 10K on Kerbin, yes oxygen, gray oceans of something-or-other

I'm aiming for some differences. You can't tell right now, but Sartres is 1.5x the size of Jool.

I have added 2 more bodies:

Fonso is an atmospheric moon of Sartres and the Titan analog. It's atmosphere is currently just a clone of Duna's, but I'll be changing that soon.

Nool is a gas giant and the Uranus/Neptune analog. It is a salmon color and has oxygen in it's atmosphere. In between it and Sartres will be Gas Planet 3.

Pics shortly.

Ohh. Still tho.

There is nothing wrong with redundancy if he wants a personal project to practice with.

Advice from one dev dairy writer to another. It can be seen as pretty spammy if you post frequently and don't share pics of your progress.

Edit: like the good ones tend to sum up a days worth of work for them. For example.

I have added Mania, a rather flat moon with dark patches everywhere. Based on Rhea, it's really boring to visit, but has pretty views of the Sartres system.

I can tell that Sartres is a hand-made texture, but it does look pretty decent. That view is pretty nice with the moon transiting its host planet.

All of the textures are handmade. Fonso is my best one yet.

I'd be happy to teach how to do it. These look so much better than SE exports.

I was about to say that to you :sticktongue:

Surprisingly, I'm actually pretty decent as custom textures. What I do is create a custom height map, and ONLY the height map. I use different textured "color-cursors" and the smudge tool to make it look detailed. What I'm calling a color-cursor is basically what a drawn line is made from - like either circles or something that looks like a bunch of tightly packed dots or even a pepper (no joke, GIMP has that).

Once the height map is done, it is put in the PluginData folder for the planet. There is only the planet's cfg file and the PluginData folder. Removed ScaledSpace from the config. For the PSQ mods, add in VertexHeightMap and HeightColorMap. While in-game, all I do is mess around with the levels and colors of HeightColorMap, and both the deformity and offset for VertexHeightMap. Keep on messing around with these PQSMods until you get the result you're looking for.

This is very similar to the method @GregroxMun used to create his terrestrial moon in his livestream last week. I've already made several planets with this method already, and they look nice. Hope this helps.

Well, you're using my method!

How do I get a color-cursor?

Daphy has been added.

kfIOQyx.png

It is the closest moon of Sartres, and has jagged grooves and plateus across the surface. With a 4096x2048 map and a 42km radius, this place is quite detailed and has about 25 m/pixel resolution.

What should I name my next moon of Nool after?

Maybe something like Trigo, Niv, or Prota (analogues for either Triton, Nereid, or Proteus). Also, here's something:

Maybe Fonso can have a system of rings, and there could be two dwarf planets before a Planet Nine analogue. That final ice giant (the Planet 9 analogue) could be a gas dwarf. The two dwarf planets could be analogues to Pluto and Eris.

The ringed moon was supposed to go around GP3 (Titus) and Sotus is the Triton analog for Nool (GP4).
