But the true horror lies in the fact that, upon death kerbals go "Poof!." It would seem that vivisection would be the only option for kerbal doctors.

Now the only thing left is KSP creepypasta.

the horror

The wonderful thing about kerbals, is kerbals are wonderful things.

Their bodies are made out of flubber,* their bones are made out of naturally occurring adamantium.**

They're spacey-wacey, exploding-flying fun fun fun fun fun...

*which accounts for their not too huge weight in a universe of heavy things

**thickest on the top of the skull which accounts for accounts of kerbals surviving large falls by landing on their heads

I'm critic of the kerbals are plans hypothesis, plants need sustainance too. Leave a pot plants with out water an see how well it does. Terrariums with only light as an input are possible, but kerbals are far more complex, energy needing creatures.

They're botanical. It would easily explain their lifespan, their capability to be isolated for decades, their tolerance to the harsh radioactive conditions of space and certain spacecraft, their ability to reproduce asexually, and their ability to sustain themselves on nothing but sunlight in space. Not to mention their green color, shared almost exclusively with flora around the globe capable of extreme(for a plant) mobility. Every sign Everywhere points to plant-like tendencies.

Kerbals are golems made of kryptonite; they're a sort of kr-man, or "kerman." Apparently, a blob of the stuff achieved sentience from billions of years of exposure to space radiation, and crash-landed on Kerbin because it hadn't yet developed enough language skills to distinguish it from Krypton. After realizing its mistake, the golem (kolem?) society started a space program to find its way home. Being made of rock, they live forever and don't need to eat or breathe, but they wear spacesuits to protect any Kryptonians they might come across in their travels. And so they can have cool jetpacks.

Kerbal anatomy?  Yes they have some. :D

I tend to think of them as a human analogue, so a bit like humans.

I made this thread about KSP "lore" to distract from the actual 1.2 hype...
Thanks for voting anyway, every opinion is important here!

Edit: hey you, yes you! you just voted "better ask Squad".... shall we?!?
