Dock Two vessels contract fails to complete

Recommended Posts

I'm playing through the career mode in 1.2 and recently sent a multi part vehicle (lander, return vehicle plus two satellites) to the mun to satisfy four contracts in one mission.

One of the contracts is to "Dock two vessels on or around the Mun". To meet the requirements of this I detached my return vehicle that I'm going to leave in orbit from the lander, then re-docked with the lander.

As I understand the contract I should have met its requirements of two vessels having been docked in the correct location, but the game failed to recognise this.

Possibly the game is expecting the two vessels to be launched from Kerbin separately, but that seems a bit strange given that one of the most common uses of docking is after sending landers to planet surfaces.

I'd be curious to know if anyone else has come across this behaviour of the game.

For this kind of missions, I think you need at least one (maybe both) vessels to be launched after the contract was completed accepted. I don't know if they need to be launched separately, but I'd assume so.

Otherwise, you could just abuse it: accept contract, undock and redock your Mun space station, and complete the contract in 2 minutes.

Not quite certain what you mean by " ... at least one vessels to be launched after the contract was completed" as the contract can only be completed once both vehicles have been launched to Mun. I think what you're getting at is that both vessels might have to be launched after the contract was accepted, which they were, just using the same launcher to get to the mun, then one was un-docked, then re-docked.

It's possible that the unstated requirement of the contract is that both vessels have to originate from separate launches, but if so, that's something that should be stated in the contract requirements.

It's not a big loss as I still need my separate lander/return vehicle configuration to complete the mission (including a a contract to grab some surface samples) I was just hoping to net four contracts in one mission, but three will do :)

Thank you for correcting me, I did mean accepted and not completed.

If you did launch after you accepted the contract, then I'd guess it's that they need separate launches. Are you sure it isn't written in the very small lines at the bottom of the contract? (The ones you never read and realise too late that your LKO station needs to accomodate 1257 Kerbals)

  • 7 months later...

to prevent the mission from being cheesable (think if you undocked a single docking port with nothing attached to it, then used reaction wheels to spin the other docking port into it) it needs to be 2 separate launches.

the best way to complete it that feels immersive is to launch a space station and dock something to it
