Shpaget
I hate to thread on a thin line here. Mods, sorry for going a bit politicky, but guys, this might be huge! Hillary Clinton talks about the need for better asteroid tracking. http://www.express.co.uk/news/science/730133/Hillary-Clinton-donald-trump-asteroid-collision This is the first time I hear either HC or DT talk about space. Could it be that, if HC wins, she will funnel some coins towards NASA? Does the US president even have that power?

Gaarst
Inb4 lock. Anyway, president is not almighty. He can say what he likes but unless the Congress/Parliament/House of Whatever agrees, nothing's going to happen. Electing a president is more about choosing what won't happen than what will happen (since the Congress/Parliament/House of Whatever will block whatever they don't agree with). Racescort666
I guess first things first, NASA's budget to go to Mars has already been approved: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2016/09/21/senate-panel-authorizes-money-mars-mission-shuttle-replacement/90793160/ NASA has been pretty clear about asteroid redirect as being part of the trip to Mars although that could be up for debate if it looks like it will be too expensive. Regardless, Congress approves the budget anyway. Write to your congressmen and congresswomen.
tater
The NASA budget will not change substantially regardless of an election.

While the president certainly has the capacity and the visibility to drum up support for expanding NASA's budget, (or the opposite if that's the case) Congress still ultimately approves the budget. That being said, Obama has been pretty supportive of NASA and support in Congress has been pretty bipartisan. Unless there is a huge overhaul in Congress this election, the president will likely have little affect on NASA's budget. If I missed your point, let me know because I'm confused otherwise. NASA has about the same % they always get for ages. OK, the Kennedy speech. You need a context for that. There is no cold war any more.
