Trouble with satellite network mission

Recommended Posts

Hello, I've recently accepted a mission from Ionic Symphonic in which I'm asked to put a satellite network into a synchronous orbit on Kerbin with minimal deviation. The contract says it must be a new unmanned probe built for the mission. I built a probe and sent it into orbit, achieved orbit with minimal deviation but the mission didn't recognize it.

I've then built a probe with 4 satellites in the fairing and deployed them in the orbit but still the orbit doesn't work.

Does someone have any advice?

Thanks in advance

Enrico

Best advice could be given knowing more about that contract and the actual orbit of your probes. Your savegame (by default, the file in /saves/<yourgamename>/persistent.sfs) has all the info needed to check this issue, would be great if you could upload and link it.

One of the most common errors with achieving specific orbits is their inclination. Some required orbits are retrograde (inclination ~ 180°), often the direction of flight on the orbit isn't noted and players fail the contract though it appears in map mode the achieved orbit perfectly overlaps the required one (but, going in the opposite direction!).

Here there is the persistent.sfs https://www.dropbox.com/s/61kcal18a92q113/persistent.sfs?dl=0

The vessel is the one named Sat-Network I.

Now I'll work on the screenshot. But I'm pretty sure I'm not in the wrong direction because the ascending and descending nodes are both zero. When in the wrong direction is usually 180° (happened a few times :D)

The first of the two contracts won't complete for one VERY obvious reason. It's a contract for orbit around the sun. And you're orbiting Minmus.
The second should complete. You are, by the looks of it, well within the margin. You might have run into a classic bug I have mentioned in the FAQ a long time ago. To solve save your progress and exit the game. Restart and return to your craft. Usually the contract will now complete without issue.

In the future, don't disable viewing of the ship type you are using in the tracking station. Makes helping you a bit confusing

This is a 3-star contract. They are the hardest. I eventually got it by getting the Ap and Pe within 5 meters, and burning north at the AN (as it's retrograde) at 2% thrust using shift and ctrl to barely thrust at all.

With the tools available in Stock, this is amount of precision is ridiculously tight. But I got it, so hey. :D

Ok, thank you guys. I'll try first to quicksave and exit and if it doesn't work I'll try to get more precisely to the orbit. Even though it's strange because I've already done some contracts where minimal deviation was requested and they all were accepted when I was close to orbit like this one.

Okay, I finally managed it. It was kind of insane :D I set the thrust limiter to 0.5 and the contract got accepted when I reached the exact position of the orbit. The descending mode was zero but I didn't notice that zooming a lot on the apoapsis, my orbit was slightly down.

In the end it was successful. Thank you for your support. One of the best things of KSP is the community.

Cheers

Enrico
