Backspace no longer Focuses back to active vessel

Just recently when I focus my view on another body I can no longer use back space to switch focus back to the active vessel. I thought this might be because I had assigned an action group to abort which I guess uses the hot key backspace as well. However I did a fresh install and new career last night and I'm still experiencing this issue. Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I do have mods installed however nothing has changed since the  problem started. It would switch with the mods and then all of sudden it wouldn't so I think we can rule and issues related to those.

Backspace still works for me but Ive seen some people say that key works

If you have an older KSP install that you upgraded, and you rebuild the settings.cfg file (by, for example, deleting the old one), then the new autogenerated cfg file will use the ~ key instead, AFAIK.

On builds where ~ is the default to go back to your ship, what does backspace do?
