Confessions of a Kerbonaut

Recently, @Red Shirt asked us if there was anything that KSP let us do that we won't.

In the spirit of that thread, I offer all my fellow Kerbonauts a chance to confess the things that they DO do, but feel a little bit bad about.

Forgive me father for I have sinned:

  • I sometimes time warp to kill rotation of a vessel I'm trying to capture or a large ship whose rotation would take me a long time to kill
  • I grab cockpits with Kerbals inside, and that claw looks like it could be decapitating them
  • I get World First credit when my insertion burn debris escapes a planet's gravity =(
  • I sometimes drop Kerbals from heights because I'm too lazy to use the ladder and I'm not quick enough on the RCS button
  • I collect science from so many research labs
  • I terminate debris, imagining that Kerbalkind, while struggling sometimes to get a large rocket to fly, has invented an interplanetary missile system with pinpoint accuracy.
  • All those unrescued Kerbals.

I use time warp rotation kill on just about every craft I fly, because I can't be bothered to properly fly things with the attitude control abilities of an inebriated whale.

I've sent far too many Kerbals on years-long missions in cramped command pods.

I go to extreme lengths to never lose or strand a Kerbal, even going as far as save editing, because A: I don't like rescue missions and B: I can't stand losing any member of my crew. I get too attached.

I obsessively make named quicksaves in order no not lose anything to my own stupidity.

...I think that's it.

Using Vector engines. I usually go with the inefficient SpaceY Moa instead for something so powerful that can fit on a 1.25m node, but it's not a given.

From the other thread:

I don't use any life support mods, instead I use the self-imposed restriction that for any extended mission the mothership has to have twice as many seats as crew members instead of just jamming three kerbals in a Mk1-2 command pod for a 6 year mission and calling it a day.

About half the time I forget to actually do this and don't bother going back to redesign my craft.

All those rescue missions.

Early on, I'll take all of the ones that do not require recovering landed debris, but after I get around 30 in the astronaut complex, I'll make a choice to stop taking them.

Then I feel bad for not taking all those other rescue contracts that come up...

A vengeful alt-F12 or save file edit, going beyond "undoing the evil". Like, recently, ISRU drained the class E I was hauling dry during time warp, and so, instead of half-depleted 1300-ton asteroid in LKO now I have an untouched 2300ton one. A bittersweet taste of disproportionate revenge.

Nothing. If I felt bad about something I wouldn't do it in the first place.

I was visiting the "canyon" biome of the mun for fun and profit, and I landed close to the rim. So, I decided to plant flags at the bottom to squeeze some XP. It went without too many problems for the first kerbal, even though I made her lithobrake in the canyon to save on fuel.

The second kerbal, however...

I tried to go for x5 acceleration, and he died when he collided a surface. Dang rail physics.
