Flags as in-game collectibles.

How about getting actual usable in-game stuff for exploring (another one of those "exploration rewards" threads, huh?)? I think the game could use some more flags.

So for example: you land on the Mun and get a new Mun flag, you do the same on Laythe and get a flag representing a big, green globe with a smaller blue dot next to it? Same for reaching your first orbit and all these other achievements.

I think it would be a nice way to satisfy people who want Steam achievements and the players who don't run KSP from Steam (and also want them). Because exploration! Woo!

Final frontier (mod) has something like this. At the end of each mission a Kerbal/s will receive badges/flags for things they did during the mission.

You mean flags as in the the stuff we select at the start of new games, that are also displayed on the side of capsules(the pictures)? I like it, it really gives a "track record" and completionist feel to at least go and plant a flag on every planer/moon.

If there is only one flag type for each planet, may i also add that these flags are displayed somewhere at KSC? Somewhere pretty obvious(beside the command pod statue?), where they literally show your exploration progression

Additional flagpoles could appear along side the main program one, each flying the a flag for a manned landing.
