I poke fun, but I have a healthy respect for anyone motivated enough to build their own helicopter powered by rockets.  It's more than I can do in my spare time.

If we all did what was safe then there would be no airplanes, no helicopters, no manned rockets, no ISS, no submarines, no ships, etc etc. In fact, there would be very few things we have now that would have been if noone took risks.

All those things I mentioned we now take for granted came through people risking life and limb. If we now sit down on whatever laurels we can find, then wave good bye to tecnhological and scientific progress.

Someone should build a light helicopter to help lift roofing up.  It's damn heavy.

Not that crazy...the RC heli community has some pretty incredible lightweight electronics at their disposal - gyros, GPS, etc. They're small and reliable even when used for high G acrobatics. Using that same equipment for something that's really just hovering and zipping around at sane speeds doesn't sound like that much of a challenge.
