Targeted landing in atmosphere, navigating the last couple km

I'm trying to land a reentered stage, and using the Trajectories mod I can get within a couple km of the target. Fine-tuning and landing is eluding me,

Are there any methods/mods that makes this easier/possible? I've tried using MechJeb, but atmospheric braking throws it far off.

Wings and control surfaces. Once you're down in the thicker air you fly to a point directly over your destination and open a parachute or three. Your RV has to resemble a spaceplane to some extent -- which makes things easier if you have some practice landing spaceplanes.

Practice makes perfect, but Trajectories and Throttle Controlled Avionics is a powerful combo for re-entering first stages Space-X style.

You can drop your object in a powered fairing, stop horizontal speed almost completly above your target spot, eject fairing, descentengine, deploy chutes, there you are. Works.

Speeding Mullet,

I've been trying it with TCA, but I'm not sure if I'm using it right. TCA seems to always start burning the engine very early to hover or limit v/s. How do you do it with TCA?

Unfortunately there I cannot help you.  I was just going off of researching for you where the overwhelming response to similar questions asked in the past was either practice makes perfect, fly manually and just get very very good at it, or TCA and Traj

Try using a waypoint and setting it as a target. Then you can line up your prograde vector, in a similar way to docking.

I would just suggest trial and error (and a cr*p ton of quick saves! )
