CatastrophicFailure
Two static fires in one day. That’s sure gotta be some kind of record for SpaceX.

KSK
Man - forget about Starlink. They could make a mint selling test footage as stock special effects shots for sci-fi films. Special bonus package - we build a nose cone to your specifications if you want just the right silhouette. Pew pew sound effects not included. CatastrophicFailure
Texas now officially has a ginormous fire-breathing raptor chained up outside. Yeehaw.

MinimumSky5
@Flying dutchman It happened, it apparently went well, but SpaceX are mulling over another one day delay, to Tuesday.

Current launch day is still Tuesday, likely slip to Wednesday for weather. And apparently no fire-breathing ginormous raptor today.

Nope, whole thing's new. 41 minutes ago, Rakaydos said: Too clean to be reused. SpaceX has demonstrated that they arnt interested in clearing off soot for reused launches. Well, to be fair, they cleaned off the ones on the first FH flight... these are modified quite a bit more than single falcon 9's are. sevenperforce
Hey all -- the distributed launch article was moved behind Medium's paywall so I copied down the free link for sharing and for you guys... https://medium.com/@davidstarlingm/back-to-the-moon-61a47c60f78d?source=friends_link&sk=74918bf1b29cbd8606507be115f9d2ec I don't have Twitter...if anyone does, can you @ Elon the next time he is on a tweetstorm? Something like, "Hey, is it true that Dragon 2 and Falcon Heavy could push Orion to the moon? [link]" Not that Elon would do anything directly, but if he replies or discusses then there's a better likelihood of it getting up to NASA and Bridenstine. Flying dutchman
I think this is awesome, don't get me wrong. But is all this thrust not a little bit excessive when there isn't any more fuel on board? Are there any benefits from having such a high twr?

And the boosters separate before emptying, for landing ops. On the odd chance it flew fully expendable, the side boosters would probably have to throttle down near MECO to reduce loads. Yes i am aware of the staging and throttling sequence. I was refering to the rather high possible twr. Does this aid effeciency in any way or is this excessive? Because i just don't think it's neccesary. The engines are throttleable so i don't see any downsides. My question is: is there an upside? Upside is, the Falcon Heavy could launch a heavier block of solid lead than any one else in the business.

Higher TWR can decrease gravity losses quite significantly, decreasing deltaV to orbit so more payload.
